Del Mar Online Racing Community

Horses have been breathing dust for a million years while they ran. What are they breathing now? Especially at tracks like Turfway Park. I reckon they aren't dying from it or we would have heard about it by now.
just a couple of years back, comparing saratoga to del mar during the same years race meet the breakdown rate at del mar was 4 times greater than saratoga, main thing is these artifivial tracks makes horses get sore.
I am taking bets that Poly goes after the fall meet in 2014, New track between of Jan 1 and April , 15 2015, BC in 2016 or 2017, Hope we are all still around.
3-1 odds, any takers, max bet book is one dollar per member.
PM me and tell me you want to bet a dollar on this.
Heard from a couple jocks this year that the base was coming apart underneath the surface and rocks were coming up from it. Going to cost a lot of money to fix it right. My guess is they give go back to dirt also. Think the main concern is that they are worried how horses will do leaving the dirt (of whatever is it is) at Santa Anita and coming straight to synthetic. Used to be majority of horses were coming off racing or training at HP before DM. Took them several years to get the surface right like this past season, a little unfortunate that soon as they created a surface horses glided over, they would take it out. But I guess thats CA racing for you.
What are rocks doing under the surface, unless there is a reason for them to be there(drainage, foundation base?)
Would those same rocks also be there under a dirt surface?
Good point about going straight from dirt to DM Poly, vs SA to HP Cushion to DM Poly. Horses react to different surfaces. Now any horse going from SA to DM would be off at least a 3 month layoff, so a well rested horse might react very different to one with no rest.
We didnt see much in public complaints from the jocks about the surface. Although opinions voiced to insiders could be different. We did see very good results in the decreased number of horse fatalities, which was the main reason to putting in the polytrack. I would guess the current track person(forgot his name) will work on the track to keep it as safe as possible.
I wouldnt replace the polytrack to bring in the BC, that might make a stop at DM once in every 5 years. I always thought the host BC track just leases the grounds and facilities to the BC to run the races. Not a big profit margin supposedly, perhaps the reason NYRA hasnt been bidding on the event in the past few years.
Dont forget, DM is DM because of the main meet from Mid July to early September, why go back to the same results and negative publicity(horse deaths) that happened in the past? This track currently works, tweak it, but dont replace it.
The Dodgers Suck. No Championships in 25 Years. HAHA
Agree completely about not changing things just to try and get the Breeders Cup. Who really cares. I hope they just fix the track as it is now (if there are some problems underneath) and if the Breeders Cup wants to come they can come, if not then so be it. This surface this year, the best horse won a majority of the races. Think odds on favorites hit the board like 95% of the time. Seemed to me this year the track was everything you ever hoped it would be when you put it in, why change now?
