So I took a Berkeley buddy of mine to Golden Gate by the Bay for LIVE racing on Sunday for Dollar Day. It is only his third time at the track, and the first two times we eyed the New York Steak that they were selling on the second level of the grandstand that looked fantastic.
After the horsemen races were over, we finally decided to get the steak. And it tasted as good as it looked. So, I was about halfway done with my steak (one of the best track foods I've had in awhile) when I go make a bet. I leave my steak plate with potato salad and coleslaw, and my DRF there as I already knew what I was going to bet. This turned out to be a terrible idea because when I came back (not even 2 minutes later), the steak was gone and the potato salad and coleslaw was scooped right out of the plate. All that was left when I came back was the empty plate, my DRF had been lifted too. At this point of the day, there were still 6 Golden Gate races and 8 Del Mar races. JHC, I immediately thought of Hollywood Mike's DRF experience.
Instead of getting mad about it, I was befuddled at the situation. Now it makes two times in a row that I have gone general admission to Golden Gate by the Bay and gotten my DRF stolen.
Has anyone had a similar story ? What would you have done in this situation, if anything ?

Take my advise and do what you please
My DRF has been attempted to be stolen at HP several times. Or getting back from the SAM a local hobo or typical cheapo customer has decided to lean over and read it and make it his own. I have had several words with quite a few people at our beloved Jack Daniels bar over this problem. Only way to solve it was to place my stuff(drink, drf, pens) behind the bar during my absence.
In the early years of Surfside Raceplace, at DM, they had big screen TV's upstairs in the Sports Club. There used to be a guy that would go around to the tables as the races would be running and take a bite out peoples sandwich or food. Also took gulps of drinks. In those days people would leave the table they were sitting at and after wagering they would stand under the big screen TV's near the windows, to watch the races. During the races nearly all eyes were on the TV's not the desks, or tables. I think he was called The Turk, maybe The Turd. He eventually was caught and tossed by the DM Rent A Cops.
I bring the on line edition of the DRF and take the tracks I need to the windows with me. I sometimes bring a previous days edition, that I dont need anymore, and leave it on the table. Most thieves wont notice and swipe the old form from your desk/table and go on their way. As for food, if there isnt a friend to watch it, then I dont bet the race, or finish my food first.
Sounds like the Grandstand at GG Fields is pretty much like the streets around Cal Bizerkely, beggars, tramps and thieves.
The Dodgers Suck. No Championships in 25 Years. HAHA
It's a sad statement on how things are these days, but I never leave anything out any more at the track. A few years ago, I still was doing the "Form on the seat to save it" thing, but one day, I did it and went to make my bet. Came back and found my Form gone and a person sitting in my seat.
I figured that, if I'm going to lose the seat anyway, I may as well hold onto my stuff, so I stopped.
Andy C . I used to save my seat at the tables in the clubhouse at Bay Meadows with previous days Programs. I would keep a stash of 3 or 4 hidden under some SAM's that nobody ever used. Many was the time someone would "Bag" their prize from me. I would just go grab one from under the machines and wait for the next person who was too cheap to buy a program, but still able to get into the clubhouse.
You can take the man away from the racetrack, but you can not take the racetrack out of the man.
I stay in the Top of the Stretch room at GGF, away from all the riffraff like myself.
Went Monday, even left my IPad at my desk for two races, along with DRF. Had no worries.
But in the past, I have had my DRF stolen in the grandstand.
It's amazing the difference in people from the grandstand to the Turd Club/Top of Stretch room.
In Tahoe you NEVER have to worry about love like that.
Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
