Unfortunately, $400 is a drop in the bucket when compared to the cost of getting a horse to a race. You can <img src="/images/chat/whale.gif"> through that just paying the actual expenses of racing. Not exactly a great incentive.
Now, DM has put together $1000 incentives for out of town horses to ship in and run that have worked well for them. They would do well to consider sweetening the pot for the locals who support racing in the region year round. That would entice some of the horses that would otherwise ship to the fairs for easier picking.
So you agree with me that it's a balance of finding the sweet spot for the fee then?So why not 2000
a race. The point is incentives in this form work because it gaurentees that the owners are supported and that they make their nut no matter where the horse finishes.Look at todays last race @Gulf ,11 horse field off the turf on to the main track no scratches exept for half the entry, everyone gets $500 for showing up to race. I bet that field would be alot shorter if there was no gaurentee.
