this sire has huge potential. his last 3 starters all in the last few days had two wins and one second. he was a really nice race horse and has a super pedigree. he has only been bred to a small amount of mares. i am going to go see him this coiming weekend and plan to breed a couple of mares to him next year.
Shhhhh! I've been playing him at good odds. The one the came in second was about 10-1 out of the 1 post and got left and checked at least once.
And who knows....in a couple of years he may be running against one of his offspring.
Was just telling a farm manager about Square Eddie. Just bred my mare to Dixie Chatter, his early runners have been off to slow start, but the buzz about how his foals have looked have made them very commercial (so far, will change fast if they cant run). Square Eddie was a serious runner, just was managed a bit strange on the track. He could be a good sire no doubt about it. Also hearing people think Coil be could be a nice sire. You never know, see a horse like Roi Charmant who you could go to for free probably has had a couple nice runners early on.
the other two young california sires i like are slews tiznow and bedford falls.
slews tiznow was a runnin son of a gun, set a track record had tons of speed but could keep going
he is a full brother to a horse named slews tizzy who won over $600k. i happened to be at saratoga the day bedford falls broke his maiden and it was a jaw dropping race he ran, everyone was saying wow what a horse and he is a 3/4ths brother the good sire harlans holiday. both of these sires stand for $2,500.00 and they are just as likely to throw a top runner as just about any sire no matter the fee. imo for the small breeder horses like these are the only way to go.
Mr. Kid.........I also had interest in Square Eddie for one of my mares. He was a runner and has an excellent pedigree, but he is smallish in size. Probably needs a big robust mare to enhance your chances for success.
Suggest when you are at Rancho San Miguel to see Slew's Tiznow that you take a serious look at both Southern Image, who is an established successful sire, and The Pamplemousse, who was brilliant in a short career. I have offspring by both and they are really nice.
Best of luck
i like those sires too and i like dixie chatter. we have some sharp young sires in cal with lots of potential, i wish you well.
my plan is to go buy two in foal mares at keeneland november and bring them back to california, those foals will be cal breds. same story there i have 4 or 5 young kentucky stallions i like and will look at mares in foal to them. i am hoping to land a couple of partners. i plan to put in somewhere between 20k and 30k and if 3 people put in that kind of money to buy two mares you could get some really nice one's. would like to buy two mares for about $40k each. if i have to do it on my own i will just buy one mare
in the $20k to $40k range depending on my cash at the time. its gonna cost about $2500.00 each just to ship the horses back to california. i can cut cost a ton by taking care of them myself and i enjoy doing it.
Here is my Bertrando yearling a couple months ago. I have the first saturday circled in pencil for 2015 on my calendar. Can always dream until their first 5/8 work. Then reality hits.
