Couple spot plays from around the country today.
Golden Gate Race 4: #2 Bonnie's Bearcat (20/1 ML) is a chance play. The favorite is an absolute pig who is likely to cough up a lead. 0 for 9 having been the beaten favorite so frequently will make me pass at the 1/1 ML. Bonnie's Bearcat has some turf breeding (sporting a 300 Tomlinson) and showed more of a spark of early speed last time at Hollywood Park. Makes the Golden Gate debut and if the favorite falters, he could sit 3rd or 4th and make a run with Alejandro Gomez.
Golden Gate Race 5: #3 Kyler (12/1 ML) drops off a non-run in a straight maiden race. The rest of the horses are terrible and so I am taking the new face at the level. The two favorites are 0 for 12 and 0 for 14. I will pass. This one stretches out for the drop and sports a one mile workout and the trainer deciding to try the mile is encouraging. Gomez stays on and is the call here.
Hollywood Park Race 8: #9 Geldautomat (10/1 ML) comes off a troubled debut where he had to steady at the 1/8th pole before re-rallying to only lose by 3/4 of a length on debut. Super works since the debut including a 6 furlong workout. Thinking that the outside post should help too, and in this evenly matched 2 year old race, will take a shot at a price.
Churchill Downs Race 5: #11 Sensationalize (12/1 ML) her one turf race was obviously her strongest race. She rallied strongly off a hot pace at Saratoga. She earned a respectable 66 beyer and I expect her to run a bigger nuber having matured over the winter. Blinkers go off and it is encouraging that the jockey who rode her in that Saratoga race runs. Price is certainly right.
Churchill Downs Race 9: #6 Miss Lucky Sevens (10/1 ML) could sit a beautiful trip right on the pace in a race that came up rather light on speed. Her race at Pimlico was okay where she pressed a fast pace and weakened. The quality of that race wasn't bad. Third start off the layoff, and could see a bounce back today as she does have her maiden win over the course.
Good Luck today!
