Idiotic rule. What if someone wants to claim a mare as a broodmare and doesnt plan on racing the claim? Suppose someone wants to claim an old class horse for a couple grand and retire them? How about a guy gets in good with a vet and runs a 25k claimer for 8k and unloads offshore and after he wins by 5 at 7-5 he has the jock unsaddle him on the backstretch and the vet puts him on the list? What if Pete Miller is pulling a scam running a first timer for a tag and you get wind of it. Set up a deal with the vet and let him know you are claiming and if the horse cruises he's yours but if he runs up the track he is lame and your claim is void. Too many loopholes....at least they should give the claiming owner an option regardless
I'd imagine if someone wanted to claim the horse as a broodmare of pet, there would be nothing to prevent them from completing a private purchase for the claiming price after the race.
