Tonight the wife and 2 1/2 year old grandson and I went to get dinner at Friendly's. We arrive, a few cars in the lot, a few tables occupied, then we wait and wait and wait...nobody comes over to take us to a table. They had 2 working the walk up ice cream area, 2 cooking, we saw 1 waitress serving food, and a gang of 4-5 employees standing about 10 yards away with all having their back to the front door and to us.
The little guy is behaving good and is hungry and is on the fringe of getting restless..then a voice...be with you in a minute....5 minutes later...I say BYE ... I guess they didn't want our business...probably would have been a $30 Bill plus tax and tip.
We went to Arby's and had a wonderful meal.
Anyone else ever had non-service?
Norman and I had a similar experience at a local sports bar. Some folks at the bar. One occupied table. We were apparently invisible to the waitress/bartender. After about 5 minutes, we got up and left. She didn't even notice that.
We do know the owner, so when we finally went back a couple of weeks later, we talked to him about it. He took it very seriously and said he'd even look at the tapes to see what was going on.

I'm a bit more aggressive (OK, a lot) when it comes to things like that. I go up to the people who have been ignoring me because their chat is more important, or they've become paralyzed in the last half-hour or so, and tell them that I'm leaving because of them, that I would have spent considerable money there but now I want to spend it somewhere else, and that I'm calling the owner. Which I do.
I don't believe in letting people get away with stuff, ever.

I was attempting to get a hamburger at Fatburger. The two cooks were awaiting the order to be placed. The girl that was working the register was doing everything and anything except taking orders. She was refilling the napkins, adding straws to the dispenser, doing something that required her to go to the back refrigerator … all the while not taking a single moment to look to see if anyone wanted to place an order.
If she had looked up for a fraction of a minute, she would have seen 5 people waiting for at least 7 minutes. Since I was first in line, I figured it was my duty to announce my departure to a different eating establishment … much to the astonished look to the two cooks that were doing nothing.
I ate at Tony Luke’s and had a great tasting steak sandwich … http://www.tonylukes.com/
Another experience, I have all the time in Vegas
I use to go to the coffee shops or the steak room, now I am will only go to buffets, I pick my food, I get the dinner I want ,and the hell with everyone else.
