Took them a while to figure out what the key to her was. That field she faced yesterday wasnt much, bunch of maiden winners. Fillies and mares arent too tough around these parts right now so I dont see why she couldnt step up but I saw nothing spectacular yesterday out of her.

Freshened six weeks by Mandella off her maiden victory last time out, SPELLBOND made it 2-2 over conventional dirt and two in a row since adding b l i n kers, scoring a very impressive win under Espinoza. The Bernardini filly trailed early off the dawdling splits, pulled her way closer four-deep down the backside, continued her ascent forward to vie for command around the far turn, took over into the stretch, inched clear despite drifting in and racing a bit greenly, maintained her advantage to the wire. The walking fractions kept this race from being run fast enough to earn much of a rating, but the winner went her final furlong in a blazing 11.97 and rallied from last into no pace, so she deserves a lot of extra credit and should be the best of the West Coast three-year-old fillies as the distances increase. East Coast invader INCREDIBLE JOURNEY tracked two-deep down the backside, three-wide leaving the far turn, came further out into the lane, closed ok the final furlong, second best. Odds-on favorite BRANDING, trying two-turns and winners for the first time, stalked the leisurely splits two-deep, moved closer to press the leaders three-wide leaving the backside, vied between horses leaving the far turn and into the drive, no match for the winner, outfinished for the place. If anyone else had been running the final 1/16th, she might not have been third, modest effort here. QIAONA tracked under a hold around the first turn, dropped back to trail onto the backside, edged closer with one beat nearing the far turn, between horses while needing room leaving that bend and into the lane, no rally. The raceshape didn’t help her. MOM NANA PETRIE stalked inside then pulled her way up to prompt the pace nearing the half-mile pole, within range leaving the backside, was shuffled back and lost position early on the far turn, came out a bit in the stretch, nothing. ROSEWHITENBLUE was sent to get over and set a very slow, measured pace, was pressured on both sides midway down the backside, clung to a tepid advantage around the far turn, collared and passed leaving that bend, outrun into the stretch, tired to last. She is not much and will likely ship up North for “The Dorf”

Aaron did you see how bad Incredible Journey looked coming out? Kidney sweat, sweat between the legs, looked a mess. Ran well enough but I really dont think the rest were anything special. Mandella takes his time, Im sure Spellbound will have 2 more races by the end of the year.

A real concern with Mandella and Drysdale runners.

They are entirely different, Beholder is more brilliant, Spellbound is a stayer and will run much further..

Not sure Spellbound had a lot behind her, but thought she overcame the raceshape, lost a lot of ground and came home great...She appears as though she will runa ll day.
