Hi J.G. Hope all is well for you in TexAss. Do you really think that people like Lester and myself read Lou Anderson novels. Surely you jest my good man.

A trainer wants to get a horse eligible for a race, so he drops him. He tells the rider, win the race, then make sure you pull him up after the wire, do not bring him back, and get him vanned off..The horse wins, gets vanned off, goes on the vets list, and if someone claims him, the claim is voided!
.

Are you serious?

What trainer would think of something like this? I can understand your theory of "hiding works" - that often happens but this latest situation you thought of is beyond comprehension.

Seriously, where do yo get these ideas? Do you honestly know any trainers who might try this? That theory is ludicrous. I realize there are creeps at the track but don't you think this is stretching it a tad?

Vince, are you serious??????? Where there is a loophole, there is someone to exploit it...I gave ONE example.. there are many other plausible scenarios along that line... Things were fine the way they were.

I was serious (for once). And I think you were too, which is fine.

Here's the problem I have:

Granted, we've all screwed around in here with ridiculous accusations - some funny, some not so funny, but when someone in the business who knows as many trainers and horse people like you do, comes up with a corrupt scenario such as the one you described, I find it mind-boggling.

Why?

Because I more or less believe you when you say that such a dirty trick is possible from a few bad seeds that have licenses in southern Cal. And deceitfulness like that - much more so than say a trainer running two horses in the same race with the longer one winning, definitely gives racing a bad name. And Good Lord, we've had enough swindling in horse racing already.

So if you think a devious manipulation of the rules such as you suggested is possible, then horse racing has way more problems that even I or the public imagines.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Vince, I appreciate your sentiments... It is really terrible that devious manipulations can and do occur...But one thing you, me and anyone with any nerve endings learned a long time ago..If there is money involved, someone will try to do something, anything to get it...

Because we are so myopic and involved in this game, it is hard to realize that every industry where corruption can occur, usually does. In horse racing, people cheat to win races, steal from there owners when purchasing horses, even claiming to purchase horses and not doing it, bet after the bell, etc... we have discussed the problems ad nauseum.

The claiming game has always had a really good system of checks and balances... The new rules change that, to be able to return horses if they do not pull up well??? Come on... and the scenario I portrayed above is one of many ways to manipulate the new rule....What if a horse BLEEDS and is put on the vets list??? What if you are claiming a filly as a broodmare and do not care how she runs and is put ont he Vets list???

Both arguments have valid points. Perhaps they should try it for 6 months and see how it works?
If shenanigans (f**kery) start to show up :o .......which is highly likely, then we know.
Scrap it.
