Golden Gate Stewards Tank the 9th Race Inquiry

Postby Pathagan » Sun Feb 10, 2013 5:07 pm

Very hard to believe that the stewards didn't DQ Pumpkin Pie in the 9th race. He absolutely wiped out Blue Sparkle in the backstretch and definitely cost him a placing (although 2 of the 3 stewards didn't agree).

How can the stewards assess that the incident (in their words) "didn't cost Blue Sparkle a placing" (especially since it happened in the middle of the backstretch in a one mile race)? Blue Sparkle went from a joint 3rd to last in the subsequent strides after the incident - yet somehow recovered to finish 5th.

As the California tracks continue to see their LIVE attendance/handle drop year-after-year, the nepotism/hardboots within the ranks of the higher levels are destroying the sport and will eventually make the sport evaporate into thin air.

Pumpkin Pie is such a cute name for a horse.

CSR becoming one of the Stewards' favorites after standing up before the finish line yesterday in the California Oaks.

He darn near lost the race with those antics.

Best filly in there was the Vallejo (Butterfly Soul). Awful trip/ride.

Look at this love: http://www.chrb.ca.gov/Stewards/Rulings ... _02_25.pdf

Stewards don't DQ Pumpkin Pie (for an obvious foul), yet suspend his rider 7 days? LMFAO

Way to stick it to the betting public (yet again)!

Agree and WTF. The stewards were much too bold in asserting (per the chart summary) that the incident did not "cost Blue Sparkle a better placing." How can they be so sure of that? The winner should have been DQed to last and the jockey suspended the next day. That kind of immediate action is what the bettors need to see to not completely give up on the game. Instead, the stewards appear tentative and weak when they diddle around like they did on this incident.
