Re: A Candy Derby horse ?
Fredo was sitting right next to me at DMR in the Casa Del Sol (ie. Hell's Kitchen) the day Candy Ride won the 2003 Pacific Classic. Beating Medaglia D'Oro, Milwaukee Brew, and the incomparable Fleetstreet Dancer. Fredo was so overcome by emotion, he was crying like a baby and laid on the ground in the fetal position. Now I know how it must have been when won his Belmont by 31 lengths..
Re: A Candy Derby horse ?JB you have a great memory. Candy Ride demolishing that HOF group will go down as the greatest race in the history of HR. I don't remember the 'fetal position" part of it. I do remember it was 131 degrees at our amazing tables that were positioned halfway on the 1st turn.It makes the experience so much real when you don't have umbrellas or canopy's. What a view and we were so close to the track. I actually heard Julie Krone talking to our CR like he was a person. As far as Big Red goes he would have got destroyed by CR in the Belmont. Also wasn't that the day Julie beat Rudy Campas in a match race? That day that Big Red won the Belmont I had just turned 38 so the memory is very clear in my head.
Godspeed
