Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens won for the first time in more than seven years in Saturday’s first race at Santa Anita, less than a week after he came out of retirement.

rode Branding ($13.20) to a win in a seven-furlong maiden special weight race for 3-year-old fillies. Branding was fifth entering the turn, and closed well to win by 2 1/2 lengths.

Caught a few photos from the day...
I had a feeling his third mount back in the saddle might be the charm.
He still looks great on a thoroughbred horse and I'm glad he's riding again.

Always enjoy your great pics, BadActor.

I think I saw you in the HP parking lot at the end of the Cash Call Futurity card; was that you trying to help an older gentleman find his car?

Yes it was... :)
the older gentleman was a little lost
because he had won at the race track
and was so excited to get out of the place
that he couldn't remember where he had parked his car.

Shout Out next time and we'll swap horse racing stories.
I always enjoy meeting new folks at the race track.
My wife & I will be at Santa Anita on Monday, February 21st.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day should be a beautiful day in Arcadia.
May your next wager be a winning one!

Stevens to ride Keeneland meet, with Churchill ‘almost definite’

Gary Stevens — the Hall of Fame jockey now eight races into his comeback after more than seven years in retirement – says he will ride the entire meet at Keeneland and is “almost definite” to do the same at Churchill Downs this spring. Stevens would miss a chunk of the Churchill meet in his capacity as a racing analyst on NBC’s Triple Crown telecasts.

“I’ve made a commitment for the Triple Crown races themselves,” he said. “It’s going to take a horse I think is 1 to 9 in the Kentucky Derby for me not to be up there doing the telecasts. They invited me into their family seven years ago. It’s not a position I want to give up.”

Stevens says:

“I always go back to Kentucky right after the Santa Anita Derby, the first weekend in April, and I plan to do the same thing this year,” he said. “My plan was to go back to Keeneland and then decide what I was going to do after that. Then my thoughts were ‘Louisville is home and it’s a great place to be based out of.’ So my intentions are to stay in Kentucky and probably go to Saratoga after Churchill. It just depends what goes on in New York. One thing about it, New York is an easy commute.”

Good story, the guy was lucky to run into such a helpful man such as yourself.

I'm working the 21st, unfortunately, and won't be able to make it to SA then; hopefully the workload allows me to watch online though. I do plan on making it out there for Sunshine Millions day. I will keep my eyes open for you and your wife and will say hi next time I run into you.

That may have been me - the lost person. So thanks for the help Badactor.

But I do resent being called "older." Please edit that accusation.

Come to think of it, I haven't had a winning day at the track in years, so perhaps it wasn't me after all.
