If HP closes after the fall meet will the employees get severance and job training for a different career ?

Not the union employees. Most work at Santa Anita, Del Mar, Fairplex or Los Al.

What about the hookers, pimps and pushers that hang out around there?

Where will they go?

Are they in unions? Do they get severances too?

Let's be fair and equal about all this.

I really hope Hollywood stays open, at least the summer meet.
The horsemen need this place to be available for good summer racing and especially year round training.
Unless Los Al can come up with a workable plan to take the place of Hollywood....I can't imagine this closing HP down is going to help our troubled horseracing business.
Perhaps, Los Al will expand and be open for a fall TB meet and year round training.

Santa Anita could run from Dec. 26 through June. It's never that hot that time of year. The turf course may be problematic, but I'm sure they can work something out that would accomodate most barns.

Would Santa Anita make more money running from the 6 months through June and giving up their shorter fall meet to Los Al?
I don't know, anyone have any idea?

Next question would be, will Los Al make a profit with this plan?
Again, don't know.

In the short term closing HP would create a difficult time for many involved in racing as a job or career. In the long run it is probably something that is needed in order to shake up the industry and accelerate changes. So in my view bring it on now so that we don't wait until the patient can't be cured at all.

Hollywood was responsible for putting in the low takeout P5. I hope they stay open indefinitely.

By the way if sports betting ever gets approved it could be a game changer for Hollywood Park.

Approved in Ca ? Never. The Indians have a monopoly on all gaming.Unless of course Chief Full Pockets decides they do want it.Then it will pass the crooked Ca. government faster than you can say colon oscopy.

It would not be available online for a few years to get people to the Casinos and Race Tracks. The big question is the "juice" they would charge.
