http://www.drf.com/news/hollywood-parks ... cing-boardExcerpt: A decision on whether Betfair Hollywood Park will conduct a fall meeting later this year, or be closed for future development, is expected to be announced at Thursday’s California Horse Racing Board meeting at Santa Anita. Hollywood Park has not publicly indicated what will be announced Thursday. The track’s president, Jack Liebau, declined to elaborate on the track’s plans earlier this month. There are expectations among industry officials that the track will conduct racing this fall, according to two people familiar with the discussions. Hollywood has been assigned racing dates from Nov. 6 to Dec. 22, according to the racing board’s website. Last August, Hollywood Park officials committed to running a spring meeting this year – from April 24 to July 14 – but would not commit to a 2013 fall meeting that far in advance.

Does management really know, what the owners of the property are going to do, who ever owns the property could change their mind in a heartbeat.
One minutes they're going to build, next minute, no they're not going to build. He is really caught in the middle.
I just feel sorry for Jack L, I don't think he will have an answer for the CHRB
Here is a solution, give up the dates with a stipulation, then give the dates to with the right to transfer to Del Mar if they can't handle the dates.

Lester, Del Mar is IMPLAUSABLE after labor Day, as you have been told ad nauseum, it is too costly to run longer than they do currently!!!!! It is shocking people cannot see how integral Hollywood Park is to the survival of Southern California racing. Santa Anita cannot run year round, and if it got more dates, it would compromise the Turf Course. Del Mar is too far to race more than seven weeks, very expensive to rent and therefore impractical after Labor Day. Boutique meets at Los Alamitos Race Course are a nice thought, but with no turf course, those horses are going to migrate elsewhere. In addition, Hollywood Park stables 1200 - 2000 horses a year at any given time, and undoubtedly has the best barn area and racetrack in California. Where are those horses going to train? The powers that be have had a VERY long time to deal with this and it has been complacently by handled by Horsemen, Legislation and other racetracks...I am extremely hopeful that an entity that loves racing buys Hollywood Park without looking at the bottom line (it is not a moneymaker) and can give the facility a facelift and people a reason to attend again...I hope it isn't a pipe dream.

Either Los Al will get it or Fairplex. I kind of hope Hollywood races in the Fall.

This who thing is beyond my comprehension. Del Mar is a complete fantasy, maybe you could run a couple weekends, something like before and after Thanksgiving. Thats it. Nobody is coming back after Labor Day to set up a barn here. Los Al? Fairplex?, Doubtful, if it goes that route So Cal racing is no longer a major year round circuit. Another 5 months at SA, boring. With suggesting Gulfstream run alongside Calder this summer, I sure can see that happening though. But where would the horses be stabled? There are really only 2 good solutions, a new racetrack in Orange County somewhere, which is not going to happen or as Boxx hopes for someone comes in and buys Hollywood, which to me is the only real good outcome. Baffert and his high profile owners pretty much control CA racing right now, they could easily get out a collection bucket @BB's new house and raise the money:roll: If they could bulldoze the grandstand from the 1/16th pole down and put in some money to modernize whats left it would help things a little bit. It does not look like anyone has spent any money on the box seat area in 30 years. Development and real estate construction is surging right now, financing is loosening up, if the people own HP are really serious about development at HP now is the time for them to do it, no reason to wait for 2014, 2015. My bet is on the status quo from this meeting, just kick the can down the road for another meet and then do it all over again next January.

I could see Santa Anita extending their meet to the end of June, but not starting any earlier than the day after Christmas. If the Fair circuit is going to pick up a serious amount of new business, they will need to restructure their Claiming levels, or it will be the biggest horses-in-training sale this side of Keeneland. So they will have Clm4,000 up thru Clm62,500? Should be able to run 12 races a day with that spread. Or maybe all the high-dollar horsemen will just drift Eastward....
Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.

Racing dates mean money, huge money, The CHRB will not do the following 1. Put all of their eggs in one basket, that means giving SA all it wants. If they did, Mr S and his Company could have a strangle hold over the State. 2. Del Mar will fight for the racing dates.
