The horse is a run off, sore animal who broke slow, as this kind often does.

The boy tried to take a hold, failed and the horse rushed up with nowhere to go.

Persevering nicely the jock put him in a spot where he might get up but once again
the air goes out of the right front tire; same as it has in his two previous efforts.

Betting these types who need three months between races at even money,
then blaming the boy is pure "munchkinism" at its finest. bbb

Not sure I understand what you're implying.

Are you suggesting that this wasn't the prototypical horseperson's race?

I think the evidence is overwhelming that it was.
