Re: feb 2
Wasn't much of a problem for the 'old' Calument Farms! America must have the highest "goofs per capita" rating of any nation outside Antarctica.
Re: feb 2
thats like saying last year the winners name started with the letter i so the chance of the winner two years in a row is unlikely to have the same letter to start the name. the horse wont win or lose because of who the owner or trainer is. the horse will win if he is the best horse that day and will lose if he isnt
Re: StagehandQUESTION: Jackie Gleason had a friend named Nick Wall who turns out was a famous Canadian jockey (didn’t know any of this had to look it up) – Nick Wall ended up riding Stagehand as a 3 year old in the Santa Anita Derby, 10 days later he rode him in the Big ‘Cap – Wiki says “as of 2007, Stagehand remains the only three-year old to ever win the Santa Anita Handicap.”
Am I reading this wrong or is Wiki incorrect- what happened in 2007 to change Stagehand's record?? Was there a 3 y/o entrant but not a wiener? Chart of the Big Cap results - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Anita_Handicap http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stagehand_(horse) Stagehand failed to win at age two, but matured into a champion at 3. He began his 3-year-old campaign with a second-place finish in a 7-furlong race for maidens and then won three one-mile races in a row. Next, he tackled stakes horses in the Santa Anita Derby for 3-year-olds on Feb. 22, 1938. Stagehand won by a half-length over Dauber, with Sun Egret third. Just 10 days later, in the March 5, 1938 Santa Anita Handicap, Stagehand was up against older horses, and was assigned just 100 pounds to carry. Champion jockey Nick Wall brought the colt from three lengths back to overtake and beat Seabiscuit[2] (who was burdened with 130 pounds) by a nose while setting a new track record in winning California's most prestigious race. As of 2007, Stagehand remains the only three-year-old to ever win the Santa Anita Handicap. His upset win in the "Big Cap" made him the only horse ever to win the Santa Anita Handicap and the Santa Anita Derby in the same year.

I was told by someone that Wiki never lies. Seems implausible, but maybe true, since it is so early in the year. I can't remember a newly minted 3 yo winning the Big Cap..
