Tiger Gets Fined by PGA Official$

Congrats Tiger, the only thing I can think of is that they must've been secretly working for CBS at the time.

CHASKA, Minn. (AP) - Tiger Woods will be fined by the PGA Tour for his public criticism of a rules official after winning the Bridgestone Invitational, a tour official said Monday.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the tour does not publicize fines.

Woods was bothered after his four-shot victory Sunday because he and Ireland's Padraig Harrington were put on the clock at the par-5 16th. He said that caused Harrington to rush three difficult shots, leading to triple bogey.

European Tour chief referee John Paramor told Woods and Harrington they were being timed.

Woods said he told Harrington after it was over, "I'm sorry that John got in the way of a great battle."

Paramor said the final pairing was well behind most of the back nine, but officials gave them time to catch up. They were still 17 minutes out of position on the 16th tee, when they were put on the clock.

Woods hooked his tee shot, punched out to 178 yards and hit an 8-iron that stopped a foot from the hole for birdie. From the right trees, Harrington hit a 5-iron to the edge of a bunker, went over the green, then hit a flop shot too hard and into the water. The four-shot swing took the drama from one of the most compelling final rounds of the year.

"I don't think that Paddy would have hit the pitch shot that way if he was able to take his time, look at it, analyze it," Woods said. "But he was on the clock, had to get up there quickly and hit it."

Harrington conceded he was rushed, although he said it would be unfair to give the final group preferential treatment.

Section VI-D in the PGA Tour's player handbook says, "It is an obligation of membership to refrain from comments to the news media that unreasonably attack or disparage tournaments, sponsors, fellow members, players of PGA Tour."

"... It is an obligation of membership to refrain from comments to the news media that unreasonably attack or disparage...".

What was unreasonable about what Tiger said? I hope he paid his two-bit fine in quarters.

Tiger is being treated as any other player would in that situation. I give props for the PGA for doing what its doing. This fine wouldnt even be headlines if it was any other golfer.

Gee, I just axed what was UNREASONABLE about the statement? Mr. Woods can probably handle a $10,000,000 fine.

The SEC gets after coaches if they criticize officials and while we're on the subject of golf criticism, who is the wise@$$ that makes you give up on wii after 10 shots? I'm just getting warmed up by then. Same goes for Padraig. :D

Should have been fined for his unreasonable release and discharge of noxious toxic gasses on an unsuspecting group of innocent individuals just minding their own darn business!

Tiger Woods escapes fine

TIGER Woods has not been fined for criticising an official's decision to enforce slow play rules on him and Padraig Harrington in the last round of the Bridgestone Invitational.

US media reports claimed Woods would be fined for his comments Sunday after Ireland's Harrington rushed shots on the 16th hole and took a triple bogey that cost him the lead and ultimately a title at Firestone Country Club.

"There's no fine. That was an erroneous report," Woods said.

European Tour chief referee John Paramor put Woods and Harrington on the clock at the 16th tee. Harrington hurried three shots, pitched his fourth in the water and saw a one-stroke lead become a three-stroke deficit.

"I'm sorry John got in the way of a great battle," Woods said. "I don't think Paddy would have hit the pitch shot that way if he was able to take his time, look at it, analyse it. But he was on the clock."

A statement from the PGA Tour confirmed that tour officials did not consider the comments by Woods as worthy of punishment.

"The information that was conveyed to the reporter was inaccurate. There has been no process started with respect to any disciplinary action," the tour statement said.

"Based on the reports we have read, Tiger's comments releated to the impact of the decision. We did not read them as being an unreasonable attack or disparaging."
