Keeping with the new policy here and NOT discussing politics, I'll give my guess and really hope I'm right.
It's something that Princess Diana never got to do, nor did Michael Jackson. Sandy Koufax, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt would like to do it today, and that is just say F-U to the paparazzi and reporters for going where no man needs to go. And it ain't got nuthin to do with politics and whether or not you think she was qualified for office, they are relentless and our future lies with TMZ unless a few stand up and be strong and say No Mas!
The media really went overboard tracking her and her family details down, not just when she was on the ticket, but well afterwards as well, much more scrutiny than any other Govenor, including those that visit So. America.
I don't think this is a case of "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". I really think she has plans in the private sector. Wouldn't surprise me at all if she was having marital problems and needed to work on some resolution there too.
What's her salary, maybe $150,000? Hell, there are plenty of jobs out there where she can legally make waaay more than that, and she doesn't even have to do something as slimey as an Oil Lobbyist. For example, how about an editor of a magazine, how about the lecture circuit, there's just got to be lots of choices ou there for her that don't directly involve public service.
Congrats on making a difficult decision, most people just stick it out in their careers and are in miserable situations afraid to make that tough choice.
We'll probably never know the real truth, I just kinda hope I'm kinda right.
And remember...Things work out best when you make the best of the way things work out.
