Maybe Mary can clarify this but putting a Prius into neutral is not as simple as in most cars. You have to push it in and hold it there until it recognizes it. The shifter doesn't sit in neutral, it snaps back. Since Toyota can't reproduce these incidents, who knows if the car listens in these instances. They sound like they need an exorcism.
As far as calling someone, I have a Toyota and the blue tooth phone system is built into the car. It automatically connects when I get into the car. It would take pressing one button for my vehicle to call 911. It wouldn't be like pulling the phone out, getting it operating, dialing it and holding it to my ear while driving 95 mph. Can't say that's what he has, but it's not far fetched.
Also, the Lexus that crashed. It was a person in the backseat that was on the phone calling 911 saying they couldn't get it to stop.
