PW, you can't just look at numbers if you did Pepper's Pride is a better horse than Zenyatta.
When you have receivers all over the field against competition that can't cover them (his receivers consistently beat the db's or they take advantage of mismatches with linebackers) and the other team can't pressure the qb, you have to be reasonable about it. He is throwing quick passes that the completion rate is high for this level of qb's. His stats are very similar to Colt McCoy's but arguably against weaker competition. Both of them have a yards per catch of between 10-12 yards.
I don't doubt that he is a very accurate and very good quarterback. The argument was does he deserve to be a Heisman finalist THIS year. I don't think so, C.J. Spiller should be there before him.
If he comes back next year we'll see. He is projected to be in the 4-7 range in qb's selected in the draft if he goes.
Case Keenum got two votes for first place and 37 points overall in the Heisman race, doesn't that say something? Two votes and that includes the region he plays in.
As far as me being biased, I don't think so. If Suh had won I would have thought that was just, he put the Nebraska program on his back and carried them back to relevance.
I'm done with this topic. Trophy awarded.
Thank you Mary!
He was pressured non-stop. Houston's offensive line sucks.
But ... I put the numbers out there and stated my point of view. You ONLY chose to refer to "yards per catch" numbers when all of the rest of his numbers dwarfed McCoy's.
Am I saying he should have have more votes than McCoy??? NOPE!! McCoy's calibur of competition was notably higher.
I'm just saying that Keenum should have had an invite because you can't totally discount his numbers. From what he did on the field this year. He at least deserved an invitation.
And C.J. Spiller??? You must be joking. Match their numbers up. You totally discount Keenum's numbers and you just can't do that. THAT'S not objective.
I looked at McCoy and Tebow's numbers and considered their competition. That's why I gave them the edge.
But Keenum's offensive line sucked and almost all of his passes were with guys in his face. Damn impressive stuff and if he gets into a situation where he gets a chance to play in the pros ... Write me in a few years and say ... You know PW ... You were right ... The kid does have skills.
That being said ... Congratulations Beckron ... On Ingram ... I would have been in total agreement with him or Gehrhardt ... They would have been my picks!
Yeah ... He sucked as badly today as Suh did in Nebraska's bowl game(2 tackles) ...
I guess even the great ones have a crappy day ... Keenum and Suh sure did ...
Well ... Even though Keenum sucked today ... It was his 30th straight game with at least 1 touchdown pass ... And the 1st game of the 30 that he had MORE interceptions than touchdowns ...
Guess he does suck after all Beckron ... You're right ... Guess Suh sucks too huh?
But ... I will give you that Keenum sucked today ... I guess 1 crappy game out of 30 is pretty horrible ...
Air Force had the # 1 pass defense in the country ... But I still sure as heck didn't expect 6 pics ... He only had 9 all year before that ... UGH!!
But yeah ... You're right ... 1 crappy game out of 30 definitely means you were right ... he's a no talent ...
Guess Suh should drop to being undrafted with his whopping 2 tackle performance too huh???
Based on how you're judging Keenum huh? (Wink)
But yep!! I admit ... Keenum sucked today ... For the first time in the last 30 games ... But he did suck today ... No disputing that!
You must not have watched Suh against Arizona. How much better do you have to be than 33-0, a shutout. He's a DL, his job is pressure not numbers. Keenum doesn't breathe the same air as Suh.
You're right Beckron ... Keenum had 1 bad game out of 30 ... He sucks ... You've changed my mind ... I agree with you ... Next subject ...
I'm not going to change your mind and you're not going to change mine ... So we may as well move on.
You must be quite the perfectionist when 29 out of 30 means a guy sucks ... I'd hate to be under your microscope.
Suh had 3 tackles but who is counting. Clearly you did not see the Nebraska game or you would not have made such an ignorant statement regarding Suh's performance. Arizona got 46 yards passing on a 10-31 night for the AZ quarterbacks. Why did you think that happened? AZ got 60 yards rushing and they ran away from a double-teamed Suh all night. If not for a long gainer with 3 minutes left in the game , AZ a good offensive football team would have had less than 50 yards total.
As for your boy Keenum, he reminds me of the quarterback June Jones had in Hawaii or the quarterback who had big numbers at Texas Tech last year and the year before. Hard to judge the talent of a QB in those offenses. Living in San Diego back when Don Coryell coached San Diego State, I witnessed several no-name JC transfers come into the system and flourish under a passing system. Keenum may have tremendous talent, time will tell, but his performance against Air Force will leave a lasting impression in many Heisman voters minds as to how he can play against a good pass defense team.

I will be the first to admit, I was not that familiar with Keenum. I knew that Houston had a decent year and was competitive in all of their games. So to get an idea of how Keenum did this year I went back and looked at all of Houston's opponents and how they ranked defensively against the pass. Of course, defensive rankings based on yards don't give a complete picture they do give an indication as to where they might be strong or weak. The NCAA lists 120 division 1 teams based on passing yards per game and here is how the Houston opponents stood at the end of the year. Northwestern State-unranked (not sure where this school is actually located), OK State-94th' Texas Tech-72nd, UTEP-99th, Miss State-66th, Tulane-59th, SMU-78th, So Miss-109th, Tulsa-102nd, UCF-113th, Memphis-118th, Rice-115th, E. Carolina-110th and Air Force-#1 as in first!
So after putting up huge numbers against less than stellar pass defenses Keenum gets his lunch against Air Force. Tell the engraver to hold up putting Keenum's name on the Heisman.
