Considering that the All-Star Game is tonight, & the majority of the pre-game talk is going to be about his pending trade, what would you give up for one of Baseball's dominating pitchers ? Raid the farm system or possibly give even a front line position player ? Getting Halladay may mean the difference between a division & a World Series Title-

There was some talk that the Dodgers were going to try and make a deal for Halladay. The bait is Russell Martin. Just talk, of course. The main concern is that the Phillies could get him. Scary.

The Jays aren't going to trade Halladay for Martin straight up, of course.

The Dodgers also should offer two of their top 2008 draft picks -- shortstop Devaris Gordon, a high-ceiling shortstop prospect two or three years from the majors, and right-hander Josh Lindblom, the former Purdue closer who almost made the team out of spring training. Lindblom could go into the Jays' bullpen right now, perhaps into their rotation next year.

Excerpted from a post I made in the Dodger forum:

Fortunately for longtime Dodger fans, Colletti isn't as stupid as some people assume, so I can guarantee you he isn't going to trade one of the future stars for a short term ridiculous desperation move with the hopes of winning the World Series while jeopardizing the future.

As much as I and most everyone else in here want the Dodgers to win the World Series this year (aside from warming my heart again, I stand to make a few sixpences on them at 16-1 if they do), I would much rather they keep this team intact verse hoping and praying that a specific player brings them over the top. We're not Milwaukee or Florida.

Colletti will do the right thing I’m sure, and pay no attention to all these silly trade suggestions for instant gratification.

But, I kinda get the feeling it's now or never. Who's gone after this year?

Manny?
Pierre?
Hudson?
Furcal?
Blake?

I think the three youngsters are going to arbitration, so who knows where' they'll end up.

But on the bright side, Dreifort comes back next year...

AC Milan has a better shot of landing Halladay then the Dodgers. Quit being homers and get back to the reality of baseball for crissakes. :D

But this is the time. This group of Dodgers position players will run out of time soon. Martin, Kemp, Andre Ethier and James Loney all are eligible for salary arbitration next season, when Manny Ramirez figures to play his final season in L.A. Orlando Hudson is not signed beyond this season. Blake turns 36 in August. Shortstop Rafael Furcal turns 32 in October.

The Dodgers might never be closer to winning it all with this group than they are right now. They are an ace away, and there is an ace to be had.

Manny (25/20M) has an option year left and told me he was going to stay. Pierre makes $10 mil next year and $8.5 the year after. Unless the Dodgers pay part of his salary to another team, and as much as I like him personally, I don't think anyone will take him at that amount. Hudson ($3.5M) is eligible for arbitration but also told me he would like to stay. With incentives and love, he can actually make $8M this year. Furcal ($7.5M) has 2 years left at $9.5/12M so he'll be with us at least through 2011. Blake($5M) has a 3 + option year contract at $6/5.25M so he'll be with us thru 2011 at least.

Martin (3.9M this year) will be eligible for his 2nd year of arbitration; same with Ethier (3.1M); Kemp, making a minimum $467,000 this year is eligible for first year arbitration and will ask for at least 5M - that's going to be a tough one if the Dodgers go to arbitration with him; my guess is they'll sign him for a few years; Loney also making the minimum this year, is eligible for 1st year arbitration; I'm hoping the Dodgers keep him long term too; heck, I want this whole team back, but I'm dreaming there.

Dreifort is still on payroll and gets 11M for each of the next 17 years.
