Vince, you're probably correct. I often whine about a punt that ends up only moving the ball down the field 10 or 20 yards.

I guess it's just a case of no guts no glory. That and I'm a sore loser.

Well, the Pats punter had a 44 yard per punt average and none of his punts were returned..say there was a net of 44 yards..that puts the ball at their own 28 yard line..

Manning going 72 yards with 1 Timeout in 2:00 is possible, but the possibility of Manning making a mistake is much greater..Belichick frankly couldn't trust the defense..

He essentially put all his eggs in one basket for the game going for it..maybe if the ball was closer to midfield..but absolutely punt..

I completely agree with that. The Pats also have like a 97% 4th down conversion rate and the Colts D wasn't exactly overwhelming.

I'd go for it again.

Does anyone want to hire me as their coach or trainer?

I've watched football all my life and covered it for five years, I would never ever agree that was a good call. To prove my point, let me complain about something that did work yesterday.

The Jaguars, needed a field goal to win, down by one point. I loved the play where the rb stops short of the goal line to run the clock down knowing the Jets can't stop it, but you need to punch that in eventually, not line up in a v formation and then move it over on two plays. What if it's a bad snap, it's blocked, anything can happen, the worst that can happen is not a tie, it's a big fight L. I thought that was stupid, but it worked out. I wondered if the coach could read the scoreboard, that's a one point deficit not a tie!!!!!!

Exactly!

I actually had his percentages of winning by going for it at 77%.

79% is even better.

Next person who doubts me in here will get banned for life.

Lol, good point.

But I think the jest of this thread is about Belichick's call and whether it was as atrocious as everyone seems to think, more so than whether or not the Patriots lost this game. Obviously the bottom line is winning, so it's easy to say he made the "wrong decision" in going for it and to second guess him.

I think statistics linked in that article suggest that his decision may not have been as ridiculous as many fans think at first glance.

It's akin to wagering on a 50-1 shot who loses and everyone says that that was a stupid bet. Then you show them that this type of horse wins 10% of the time, so it really wasn't such a dumb bet you made after all.

I honestly feel that if it wasn't Belichick and say it was Andy Reid, Caldwell, Payton or Tomlin, folks wouldn't be condemning those guys to death like they do Belichick.

The other problem is that Belichick's call was out of the norm so to speak, and once you do something folks are not accustomed to and it backfires, you're going to be challenged.

Again, had the Patriots made the first down on this call, folks would be praising Belichick for his "gutsy winning call" and saying that's why he's won the SB multiple times.

Although I'm in the minority, I stand by his decision.

If Norv Turner had called the exact same play, in the exact same situation, with the exact same result, would it still be the correct call?

Bellychick needs to stop reading the press releases that say what a genius he is..Beckron nailed it..a "high school" play call, at best..
