Who Is Your Sports Hero?

Postby Badactor » Sun Jul 12, 2009 1:34 pm

WHO IS YOUR #1 SPORTS HERO
and post your 2nd choice too... just for fun.

I had the opportunity to meet my ALL-TIME Sports Hero
on Gold Cup Day @ Hollywood Park... :D Laffit Pincay, Jr.

As the one of the smallest kids in my class, I dreamed of someday being a jockey.
Then the growth spurt... 'Alright, if I can't stay small like Laffit, I'll grow tall and play basketball!'

Laffit Pincay, Jr. & Wilt Chamberlain...
they were my Sports Heroes as a kid and yesterday
I was a kid again when I shook hands with the greatest jockey 'ever rode a thoroughbred race horse.

Nice picture.......thanx for sharing.

My number one sports hero is the baseball announcer people have been talking about in that other thread.

Second place is a three way tie between Joy Scott and John Wooden.

Have to be Reggie Jackson and Seattle Slew. DH. ( I believe both covered approx. same number of mares in '79, '80, '81, & '82)

Great question, this is a work in progress.

As a little kid it was the Dodger's Wally Moon because he only had one eyebrow.

Next it was the Rams Fearsome Foursome because their necks were about the same size as mine.

Nowadays, even though Golf isn't my favorite sport, it's becoming TIger Woods.

His accomplishments on the field are well documented and second to none.

I especially like the way he handles himself with a loyal team around him. Nothing gets said about Tiger from inside the camp unless it's approved by the man himself. You can't buy that kinda loyalty, you earn it through your actions.

Perhaps most important is the work/money done with the Tiger Woods Foundation for the benefit of kids.

The Foundation will outlive any heroics he may have in a red Nike shirt on a Sunday afternoon, and many many lives will be changed for the better, congrats Tiger, it's fun to be a fan.

"...As a little kid it was the Dodger's Wally Moon because he only had one eyebrow...".

That begs the question - which eye didn't have an eyebrow?
