Any of you horse folks ever use this stuff? After a heavy rain here in the desert, we got some ants in the back forty. So I like to go organic and natural whenever possible. I head on over to a local feed store, for food stuffs for the dogs, and happen to mention the ants, because I saw they had some farm chemicals there.
I say, "I'm not so sure about chemicals." The guy there says we have this stuff called "Diatomaceoous Earth." I first say, "is it safe?" "Is it safe?" says he, "why farm animals can eat it!"
Then he says, "hey, what are you some kind of sissy liberal, with all your fancy organic and natural talk?"
"Me?" say I, "A sissy liberal? " "No, not me." I say in my best John Wayne voice. I then proceed to pull my collar back and I lower my head so he can see my red neck ( good thing I mowed the lawn that morning without sunblock).
"Ok" he says and then he tells me, "this here stuff is actually a food."
I say, "a food?" " Well, what's that got to do with killing ants, pilgrim?" He says "You spread some of this in your backyard and you'll see what it's got to do with killing ants or any other kind of bug." He also says "it's safe for your pets." "Put some on your pets and no tick or flea will live for long, yet your dogs can eat it some or lick some with no problem."
So I buy a container, which is actually cheap. I then go on line to see what it is that kills the insects. Apparently this stuff is fossilized bone of long dead animals. The stuff is in powder form, and what it does after spreading some around, is to attach to the insect, and lit erally rip the waxy coating off of their hide causing them to dehydrate. Three days later and no ants.
Good stuff and it's natural (no chemicals). Go Green
This stuff has a lot of uses and it's natural, not sure if it's organic, but it's natural. No pesticides or anything like that. And it's cheap. I got like a super big box of the stuff, and about 1/20th of the contents was enough to broadcast and cover the back forty. One of my dogs likes to graze on grass. He's more equine than canine. I didn't want to lay down any chemicals because I didn't want him munching on pesticides. Lo and behold you can supplement his dog food with this stuff. And about 3 days after application, no ants or ant holes or mounds. They are gone.
proponents also say it can be used as a colon cleanse to de-worm yourself ARRRGHHH… for pesky ant problems indoors or out have always relied on the Terro brand products, thank you veddy much...
