Week 9 College Football Observations...

Postby Masterp » Sun Nov 01, 2009 6:45 am

... my thoughts and observations after yesterday.

-Iowa took the world's luckiest play and rode the momentum to a lucky win over a well below average Indiana team. I am going to be the world's biggest Ohio State fan in two weeks. Iowa has no business being anywhere near the top 5 of college football. They should slide a little this week

- Is Mark Richt in trouble in Georgia? Honestly I don't think so, but that is not a good team. The defense is pretty pathetic. Congrats though to Florida, they type of game they needed.

- Alternate uniforms. I am open to teams experimenting sometimes, but not a big fan of either of the ones we saw yeterday in the SEC. Georgia's looked good, but I'm not a fan of changing the helmets. Really liked the black pants, I remember when they wore them during the Quincy Carter era, but wish they wouldn't have touched the helmets. And Tennessee, I know it was Halloween and all, but please don't bring those black jerseys back again.

- Oregon is one of the best four teams in America with Texas, Florida and Bama. Give me Boise St and Oregon on a neutral field, its a no contest right now. I hope for the sake of my entertainment pleasure, Oregon gets into the National championship game...I don't want to see their talent wasted on Iowa or Penn St or Ohio St in the Rose Bowl.

- Back to the Vols...Lane Kiffin is my idol. http://deadspin.com/5393699/layla-kiffin-si-swimsuit-issue-rumor-nearly-breaks-internet He has one gorgeous wife. Flat out beautiful.

- I know towards the end of the year natural grass fields begin to look like crap (I personally believe everyone should go to the synthetic...in football, not horse racing), but did anyone see the dirt pile that was TCU's home field yeseterday. What a disgrace...and in Texas no less. That had to hurt to be tackled on that mess.

- Washington State covered against Notre Dame, now I will be forced to listen to Paul Wulf on the radio talk about how his program is going in the right direction. I hate listening to spin when its coming from one of the worst BCS football programs in the last 20 years.

- It can still happen, 2009 ACC Championship - Boston College vs. Duke. Kind of find my self rooting for it so we can see ABC/ESPN simultaniously poop their pants.

- And finally props to Texas, they have looked pretty darn good the last two weeks.

I think in the hotel elevator of the SEC, Tennessee is going up and Georgia is going down. I can't stand Kiffin, but I do think there is a method to his obnoxious madness. I don't think there's any team that wants to play Tennessee right now and if they get into a bowl, I would think they will be motivated to roll whomever they face. Georgia might just be in a rebuilding year, but that's a dangerous situation to be in that conference. The elite teams like LSU, Alabama and Florida reload a lot more often than re-build and live in the key card required penthouses. Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas and even Mississippi State seem to be swinging back to the positive side of an upper floor room with great view. Mississippi and Georgia have been disappointing this year and have been subjected to a lower floor with view of the courtyard. South Carolina seems to be the same, competitive but still lose 3 or 4 games while knocking on the door to a room with a view. Probably drives the old ball coach crazy. Kentucky is maintaining their brief resurgence to being average, but still have a view of the duct work. Vanderbilt jumps in with a competitive team every five or six years, but will always be the smartest in the classroom and the worst on the field while being on the ground floor with a room by the indoor pool.

Nicely done Bob, I can't disagree with any of the points you made.

I don't care how good Oregon looked against USC to say that it is "no contest" against Boise State is patently ridiculous. Oregon got whupped at their place last year and at Boise this year. They came into this year's game with revenge and redemption on their minds and all they could muster was 6 first downs and 31 yards rushing.

Personally, I think TCU would beat them both. Great defense and solid offense.

Andy, last years results shouldn't factor in to this years scenerios. Oregon lost at Boise on the opening night of the year. Since then, they have played better competition week in and week out, except for the Washington State game. Boise in the meantime has beaten teams from the WAC, MAC and Conference USA. If you read my comment thoroughly, I said that I will take Oregon on a neutral field right now. They win by double digits for sure.

Bob, I think that Spurrier is going crazy because his offense is totally inept. He's not used to that from his Days at Florida. His Defense is pretty solid though and that has to make him happy a bit.

And even when Lane Kiffin wins, he loses. His beautiful wife Layla is a Florida Gator Alum. Layla's father is John Reaves, also a Florida Gator alum. I wonder how the week of the Fla-Tenn game was for that family

Oh and I personally believe TCU would be Boise State by 20.

Georgia has taken on the personality of Mark Richt, laid back and undisciplined. Florida is their Daddy.

BTW, I would imagine if Georgia could beat Florida consistently the fans wouldn't care if the coach was married to UGA.
