What the hell?!?! Chase Auto Finance.. fun day!

Postby Jocan16 » Tue Oct 27, 2009 4:08 pm

A little back story.. try to keep it short as possible. My car payment is due on the 18th of each month. I financed it through Chase and also bank with Chase. I had a tenant give me a bunk check on the 14th for his last month's rent and he has since split. Long story short, he did a number to my account and even though the car payment was paid as scheduled with auto pay.. they reversed it once his check came back without telling me. I assume they can do this because it is the same financial institution. So, I have since brought the bank account current (with a couple hundred in fee's, which is nice =)).

Well, today I was in a web meeting with some of our Solar reps and I get a knock at my door. It is someone from an auto recovery company and he asks if I am me?, I reply "yes". He then calls a phone number on his phone and says he has someone that needs to speak to me. I take the phone and am introduced to a lovely young gal named "Maria", who is my account rep for my auto loan. Maria proceeds to throw 117 threats at me and says my auto payment was returned and that I am lucky I was home because the character at my door was going to take my vehicle. I tell her that payment was made and I had received no notice in the mail or online banking that it was returned and proceed to go into the above story.

She tells me I need to make a payment by today to avoid them "securing their interest". I say "Okay, will you take my credit card over the phone?".."Nope".. "Will you take my debit card over the phone?".. "nope".."Will you transfer the money from my checking".."nope" again. She says she leaves at 4 and payment needs to be made by then at a physical branch. I tell her that this is not possible because I am in a meeting and then have a conference call with telemarketers. She says they will be back to get the car tonight. I tell her that have logged into online banking and have an external linked account that I can pay with (along with their same day posting $10 fee).. she advises me against this saying that if just one digit is wrong in my external account number and it doesnt work, they will pick up the car. I tell her that I have used the external account before and it is stored in my online banking.

Before you say "something else is up", I have never been late nor have had any problems with the auto account (fully insured, registered, even waxed for hell's sakes). 10 day default and they are resorting to these tactics? wtf?

Anyone dealt with Chase as a lender? Is this common practice? My last loan was through Wachovia and I am not sure if I ever fell behind, but I never so much as received a call.

Is this some sort of "scare" tactic they resort to for people that are intending on skipping out? I didnt look to see if there was a tow truck, for all I know the guy drove his minivan to my place.

So anyhow, I made the same day payment online. We will see if this circus continue's...

UPDATE: Went out to grab some flyers out of my car while writing this and my front right tire is flat...??!!?! LMFAO WTF

I tell you Sir. Besides the Cards, 08-09 have been a bit of bad luck for me.

The good news, it looks to be a nail that flattened the tire. I hadnt driven the vehicle since this event went down.

Wall Street lost $117 Trillion, they have to get it back ASAP in order to meet annual bonus payments.

Wanna REALLY get screwed? Sell your house now.

BTW, have you changed banks yet? When you do, be sure and tell them the reason.
Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.

I had WaMu which was taken over by Chase. YuK. Chase is adding a service charge to my savings account and they are raising my cc interest rate by almost 10%! I've heard some other horror stories about them also. Needless to say I will be looking for a new bank. Prolly a credit union or community type. I've heard they are a lot more customer friendly.

I also have an account with a local bank, which isnt too bad. They still pull the same type of crap with my account (taking a week to post credit debit's, then pulling them first from largest to smallest, then fee-ing the love out of me at $32 per) just like the big banks.

Never experienced what happened today though. Checked at midnight to make sure my payment went through and found no evidence of it, luckily before I went into cardiac arrest it showed up about a quarter past 12.

The scary thing is that my car books at about $16k and my loan balance is $5,700. I am sure they are frothing at the mouth to "secure their interest". I think I may just need to hit the P6 tomorrow and be done with them.. :?

I closed/cancelled my Chase CC yesterday, also a former WaMu.....they thought they were gonna raise my interest rate nearly 10% too.....NOT!! Ain't it just wonderful how these bogus joints think they can do whatever they want to good customers in order to make up for their bad judgement in giving CC's to poor customers? They can shove their card where the sun don't shine.

My brother had a similar situation. Morgage and car payment were with the same bank and they did auto withdrawals. One month they did a double morgage withdrawal and it screwed up all his payments and he paid all kinds of fees. My advise to my brother and to you is to stop having automatic payments....they are the devil's work. Have the bills sent in the mail.

I haven't financed a car in ages. I have an open HELOC that I use for big purchases. Then I control how much and when I want to pay. When I hit a big P6, I throw a couple grand toward the balance. Interest rate is locked at 2.99%.

But, I sympathize with you. Everyone from AT&T to the bank tries to tack on an extra fee here and there these days. It's a good thing my wife is extremely diligent with the bills, otherwise I know some of this stuff would slip by. My co-worked was telling me her bank puts a 14 day hold on CASH deposits. WTF?

When I had a Compass account a few years ago they would put a 5 day hold on both checks and cash (even through a teller).

The only cool thing about Chase is the fancy ATM's. They accept cash and deposit checks as a teller would so you can do your banking anytime. Other than that, I really see no upside.

I closed the checking and savings with them this morning, now I just need to find another lender to hold my auto balance. "Maria" also tacked on a $50 fee to my loan for sending the guy to my house. lol..
