Trip Report: Jets at Raiders

Postby Triple Threat » Sun Oct 25, 2009 7:53 pm

Decided to go to the Oakland Coliseun to see my Jets play the Raiduhs..

I decided to proudly don my Jets jersey for the game..I took BART to the stadium (very convenient) and get there around 11..

I peruse the tailgates looking for some with Jets fans..and I find one, and met some Jets fans who were great people..well there were two Raider fans and two Jet fans, but they were all great..Raiders do a great tailgate, but there is definitely a police presence at the stadium..

I got the typical love being a fan of the visiting team..got flipped off a few times, cursed at a few times, and a Jets suck chant..even a little kid, couldn't be more than 8 years old said "love you, go Raiders" ..I loved it though..

I get into the stadium 30 minutes before kickoff..the stadium sucks..prolly the worst football stadium I've been to..old, Mt Davis is an eyesore, and the video screen was tiny and the out of town scores were never posted..

During the national anthem, Raider fans are chanting Raiders and yelling at the fan with the Steelers jersey..WTF..I felt embarrassed for the Raider fans..

Also, there were a ton of empty seats..there are the few passionate Raider fans, but there were at least 20,000 empty seats..attendance was under 40,000..must be the lowest NFL attendance this year..

The game starts, and it went very well for the Jets, with Russell getting relentlessly booed every time he took the field..it was comcal after that last INT..

When Gradkowski got put in, it was the loudest cheer of the afternoon..but he didn't do much better..

There were a couple Jets fans in my section, and we all had a great time..the fake punt was great, the Raiders never saw it coming..

At halftime, the stadium started emptying out..and after it was 31-0, a Raider fan was leaving, and tapped me, and I turn around, and he flips me off ..

I went down to the bottom level for the last part of the 4th, and participated in the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS chant..as well as seeing Bill Callahan dumped with gatorade..didn't see Sanchez eating the hot dog, however lol..

All in all, it was a great day, and though Raider fans gave me the business, it was an amazing day..

Nice report.

But we need some pictures of cheerleaders to authenticate your trip.

For all I know you could have been watching this game on local TV.

Never mind, it was blacked out:-)

Like Kermit said. You are nuts. You're lucky the game wasn't close - you'd be in the hospital right now. Serious.

On a related note: Do you think the Raider Nation would mind if I jumped ship? I've been loyal to them for 25 years now, but I'm not too sure Mr. Davis gives two loves about the fans anymore. How about if I switch from Silver and Black to Gold and Black? Saints showed some heart to win their game today - something the Raiders haven't done in years.

What's next, Vince is giving up on the Rams?

TheBart is cheering for the Lakers instead of the Suns?

FredofromChicago is having his birth certificate changed?

The guy from Saratoga is moving to Del Mar?

You might want to change your avatar as has been done by other bandwagon fans with no heart in the past here.

And speaking of the Damn Yankees......

You've gotta have heart
All you really need is heart
When the odds are sayin' you'll never win
That's when the grin should start
You've gotta have hope
Mustn't sit around and mope
Nothin's half as bad as it may appear
Wait'll next year and hope
When your luck is battin' zero
Get your chin up off the floor
Mister you can be a hero
You can open any door, there's nothin' to it but to do it
You've gotta have heart
Miles 'n miles n' miles of heart
Oh, it's fine to be a genius of course
But keep that old horse
Before the cart
First you've gotta have heart
And remember...Things work out best when you make the best of the way things work out.

TT while I played the game of football since I was a wee lad in Pop Warner to high school to college while they had a team I learned the valuable lesson of sportsmanship. After all in high school there was a reason why the home team had bleachers for their fans and the opposing team had bleachers across the way for their fans. So while I cannot condone wearing a jersey to another teams building and certainly can't blame the fans if they were to beat you like Rodney King or even a milder Nancy Carrigan beating in your knee cap, I am glad you had a good time and survived.

I think one of the problems here is that some of us are too old to remember the STUPID stuff we did before we were old enough to drink.

Congrats to TTT for living on the edge!

Wonder how much interest there is in luring the Raiders back to LA to the new megaplex stadium that's going in the City of Industry. They certainly have a huge following in SoCal.

Know the project owner is really tight with Chargers' owner Spanos, but he's also angling to have two teams share the stadium.
I hate it when I don't forward chain letter and I die the next day!
