During the bottom of the 6th inning of last night's ALCS Game Five, a jovial backer of the Halos felt it necessary to bring a halt to the action by making a personal Splash Mountain out of the weird watery outcropping at Angels Stadium. Even though the Angels held a 4-0 lead at the time, they would still need back-to-back wins in Yankee Stadium for the Angels to hold another game in their home ballpark in the 2009 season.
If ever there were urgency to make an idiot of one's self in the fountain, it was certainly then. He might want to work on his footing though, in the unlikely event he's ever allowed back in the stadium.
What was most surprising about the incident wasn't so much that someone actually got in the fountain (I believe it was Chekhov who said that you cannot put a fountain in a stadium without expecting it to be leapt into by a drunk guy) so much that FOX kept the cameras on him as long as they did. Granted, play had been temporarily stopped, so the audience probably needed to be clued in to some extent as to what was going on, but I thought the policy with networks was to not show people interfering with the game, so as to discourage folks seeking cheap attention.
Perhaps Joe Buck desperately needed to whip out the "this is a disgusting act" intonation just for old time's sake.
Streaking has become passé.
