Book of the Month Club for July 2007 - Global Racing

Global Racing by Alan Shuback of the DRF has been nominated by Vince P for Book of the Month.

This book is GREAT. I finally got through the first chapter (words are very small) which dealt with racetracks in Great Britain like Royal Ascot, Newmarket and Ferndale. Speaking of Newmarket, there's some big races there today, (yesterday and tomorrow too). Newmarket has two turf courses; one is named, believe it or not, the "July" Course, which is now being used. The other course is called the Rowley Course and part of the Rowley course is also part of the July course. Hard to explain that, but Newmarket is one of the top tracks in the world.
Has anyone ever been to Europe (isn't Itlee part of Europe?) and seen some these incredible joints? I'm jealous if you have.

You wouldn't believe the history behind them - some of them were built in the 1600-1700s and have had racing for over 300 years. Heck, I didn't even know Columbus discovered Great Britain that long ago.

If and when I ever grow up, I plan on spending the whole summer in Europe so I gamble on the horses at as many of these wonderful racetracks as I can.

Has anyone read "Global racing" or do youz all just read Jugs and PlayGirl?
