Just read an interesting article in the DRF about social media platforms like Twitter and how many trainers use it to inform interested parties of their horse's status, next races, thoughts, etc.
It's funny, in a strange way it appears to me that many fans who follow Rachel Alexandra/Zenyatta/Giacomo on social media pages are probably those who seldom, if at all, wager. While other fans who follow guys like Quigley or trainers like Graham Motion, probably do wager and some a lot, but not more than they normally do because of reading Tweets.
Bottom line is that although I feel Twitter, Facebook, etc, can be an additional means of communication to attract racing audiences, and certainly can't hurt, I'm not sure they really help racing. I'd hate to see horse racing start to rely on media outlets such as these in lieu of other benefits to racing fans, such as lower takeout, cleaner tracks, better live/simulcast amenities, etc, etc.
Question:
Do you really care about horse racing Tweets? Do you follow a specific trainer(s)?
Would you rather have horse racing Tweets available at your finger tips (pun intended) all day long or would you rather see racetracks take a more direct approach in making the racing experience more enjoyable and beneficial?
Or a combination?
