Local Media Bias

Postby Vince P » Tue Jan 29, 2013 8:14 am

I admit, I listen to Sports Talk far, far too much but one thing I learned about local media is that their bias is insane.

In the Bay Area there is an FM (95.7) and an AM station (680) that covers local teams. Some of the hosts are very good, while some are so-so. The common denominator is that they are all rooting for the 49rs which is the way it should be.

But it seems to me, that every "Guest" they have had on in the past week which includes current NFL players, retired NFL players, etc, etc, has listed a million reasons why the 49rs are going to destroy the Ravens. Not one single time have I heard a guest predict a Ravens' victory. There may have been one, but I must have missed it. Of course this makes sense because most of their listening audience WANTS to hear a 49r victory prediction.

But imo, it's rather ridiculous to only have those on that you KNOW are going to predict a local victory. I'm guessing they call the guest first, get to know their feelings and if they are going to say the 49rs will win, have them on the show.

Makes a lil bit of sense to me, but to me it’s silly.

Nags, SuddenIce, others, your thoughts?

If the Niners win by 10, 17 or even 1 point, I will fly you and Mr. S to Itlee, with a Quacko on either side of you and yada, yada, yada.

You have this in legal writing.
