Dumbest Wager in Jeopardy History

Postby Vince P » Fri Jan 04, 2013 7:55 am

I Tivo the show and I'm a few days behind so I watch in arrears if that makes any sense.

One day last week (Dec 28), some broad (returning winner, nice lady and very smart) ended up Double Jeopardy with $17,200 while one of her opponents had $8,600 - exactly half of her bankroll. The other person, I think, was negative and couldn't play in Final Jeopardy.

So all the leading lady had to do was simply sit quiet, relax and NOT wager and she would win $17,200 and return the next night. The $8,600 lady had to go ALL IN just to tie.

The 2nd lady does go ALL IN , hits Final Jeopardy and wins $8,600 and now has $17,200.

The leader unloveingbelievably WAGERS $5,000, misses Final Jeopardy, and ends up with only $12,200 and goes home.

Anyone see that?

Now I know I've harped on a lot of times when wimmins love up in wagering on Daily Doubles or Final Jeopardy, but this one takes the all-time cake.

I'm sure I saw it because I DVR all the episodes but from the link I can't tell which one you mean.

PM,

Link goes to that game where she flubbed up. Scroll down a bit and you can see her scores before and after.

I think she was just overconfident. She thought she had it in the bag.

Yeah, she could have been extremely confident. I guess if they asked a baseball or horse racing question I may have done the same, but still........I'm thinking she simply miscalculated as smart as she was.

Yes that's it exactly.

After she missed the question and they unveiled her wager my eyes figuratively popped out.
