Posted on Tuesday, 12.25.12 Lost, blind dog finds way back to Alaska ownersFAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Blind and alone in Alaska winter temperatures that dipped 40 degrees below zero, a lost 8-year-old Fairbanks dog wasn't given much of a chance to make it home. But after walking 10 miles to the edge of a local musher's dog yard, Abby the brown-and-white mixed breed was found and returned to her owners, a family that includes two boys and one girl under the age of 10.
The dog that the family raised from an animal-shelter puppy went missing during a snowstorm on Dec. 13, and the family never expected to see her again, The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.
"It's a miracle, there's no other words to describe it," said McKenzie Grapengeter, emotion choking her voice and tears coming to her eyes. "We never expected to have her to be returned safe and alive."
Musher and veterinarian Mark May said he came across the dog while running his team on Dec. 19, but didn't stop to pick her up.
"It ran with us for about a mile on the way home before she fell off the pace, but I had a big dog team so I couldn't grab it," he said. "I said, 'boy I hope it finds somebody's house.'"
The next day, the dog turned up at May's house.
"Everybody just assumed it was some kind of scaredy-cat, but there it was in front of the door in our dog lot and it was blind," May said. "It was sitting there, all the way from 14 mile on the winter trail down into this neighborhood, I guess by just sniffing, so I picked it up and brought it in."
To May's surprise, the dog had no signs of frostbite.
"No frozen ears, no frozen toes, she'll probably go back home and it'll (be) business as usual. She's no worse for wear but quite an adventure," he said.
The Grapengeter family hadn't tagged or put a microchip in the dog, but the community used social media to track down Abby's owners.
"We're so, so grateful for all (the community's) hard work," McKenzie Grapengeter said. "They've given us the most amazing Christmas gift we could ever ask for." http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/12/25/3 ... -back.htmlPeople, please put I.D. tages on your pets. Those are their tickets home.

Please have them microchipped. Tags can be lost.

The thing about micro-chipping is - which I learned in almost 30 years of dog rescue & fostering (now retired) - is that there is a large section of the population in any town or city who are not aware of micro-chipping and/or it would never occur to them to take a dog to a vet or even a humane society just because they found it, and thus discover a micro-chip. Old-fashioned I.D. tags are the way to go because they are readily viewable, and can be added to a micro-chipped pet for extra security. I've had many dogs who had their tags on for the entire lives, tags don't get lost as often as you think, assuming they were put on properly in the first place. Not too tight, not too loose. A personally engraved I.D. tag costs about the same as a single latte, lasts much longer and does a hell of a lot more good. I will never understand people who claim to love their dogs (and cats) and then don't provide them with a way to get home if lost.

Another one After 7 Years, Cat Reunited With Family By Lauren Steussy | Tuesday, Dec 25, 2012 |
Sophia the cat is headed home for the holidays after seven years of being missing.
A cat named Sophia will be home for Christmas after being missing for seven years, the San Diego Humane Society announced Monday.
Sophia went missing from her family in Arizona and ended up in the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA over the weekend. Luckily, a microchip was planted in Sophia and the humane society was able to contact her family.
Now a little older and lot wiser, Sophia will be flying back to Phoenix to be reunited with her family. The humane society and SPCA is making her return possible.
“I was shocked to hear that she was ok after seven years!" said Sophia's owner Trish Oster. "I didn’t know how I was going to manage getting her from San Diego. It’s the best Christmas gift I could have asked for."

Non sequitur (Latin for "it does not follow"), in formal logic, is an argument in which its conclusion does not follow from its premises.[1] In a non sequitur, the conclusion could be either true or false, but the argument is fallacious because there is a disconnection between the premise and the conclusion. All invalid arguments are special cases of non sequitur. The term has special applicability in law, having a formal legal definition. Many types of known non sequitur argument forms have been classified into many different types of logical fallacies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non_sequitur_(logic)
