Yes I agree , wholeheartedly. I usually judge acting by how much I see the character and not the actor, especially in a biographical movie. I never for one minute of the movie saw Daniel Day Lewis acting as Lincoln, I only saw Lincoln.

When I saw the movie Patton, I didn't see George C. Scott acting as Patton, I saw Patton.

Sure the make up helps, but there are actors that can never get me to see just the character and not the actor playing the character. Robert Di Niro is such an actor. For instance, in the movie Raging Bull, I never saw Jake La Motta, I only saw Robert Di Niro acting like Jake La Motta.
