Rams to take conservative approach?

Postby Lurker » Tue Oct 06, 2009 10:59 am

Rush Limbaugh has joined a bid to buy an ownership stake in the National Football League's St. Louis Rams.

Rush Limbaugh wants to own the St. Louis Rams. The radio and conservative icon has teamed up with Dave Checketts, owner of the national Hockey League's St. Louis Blues, to try and purchase an ownership stake in the team.

It's difficult to determine from reports if they are trying to purchase the whole team or the 60 percent owned by the children of the late Georgia Frontiere, the long-time owner of the franchise who died last year.

Limbaugh couldn't give details, citing a confidentiality agreement with the Goldman Sachs investment bank which was retained to shop the team around.

A reason to hope for the deal to happen is so a Limbaugh-owned Rams could play the Donovan McNabb-led Philadelphia Eagles.

It was Limbaugh, of course, who in 2003 said on ESPN that quarterback McNabb was overrated as because the media wanted a black team leader to succeed. That's choice locker room bulletin board material.

McNabb might need the motivation since it's easy to take the Rams lightly; they're pretty hapless. They started this year with no wins and four losses, picking right up where they left off last season when they had 2 wins and 14 losses.

I don't know how people will feel about Rush owning some of the team, but the Rams would go a long way to getting some respect and love in St Louis if Checketts was involved. People in this city are so excited about the Blues and think the organization can do no wrong. I'm very jaded and even I have to admit that between Checketts, John Davidson and the rest of the front office, they are spinning out some of the most fan-friendly pr and saying all the things people want to hear. There was always a hard core group of hockey fans, but the current buzz about the Blues is approaching Cardinal baseball levels and the Blues have been pretty bad for the last 7 or 8 years. They made the playoffs last year with a late run, but were swept out by the Canucks. There was no grumbling though, just looking forward to this year.

Bring on Checketts and hopefully sooner rather than later. The first move he would probably make is to get Dan Dierdorf to play the President role that John Davidson provides for the Blues. The hate of the Rams in the city far outweighs the love and even worse the apathy outweighs both.

If John Shaw is still involved in ANY way with management decisions, there's your problem!

You're spot on there and while the organization say he's not, most people think he's still calling the shots. He was always despised locally because he refused to move to St Louis and worked out of LA. (I certainly didn't blame him, because if I lived in LA, I wouldn't move to St Louis either)

Seriously, which is the worst run organization in the league, the Rams or the Raiders? Both seem to be lost in space with no appreciable outlook to get back on course.

The season is still very young. I'm expecting a major turn-around by my Rams this weekend, if not sooner.

Btw, does anyone in here remember the Embraceable Ewes?

Raiders for sure, I do not think there is a worse run team in all of sports.
