2016 Olympic Games to be awarded Tomorrow (Friday)

Postby Srotagtbs » Thu Oct 01, 2009 2:36 pm

Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Chicago, and Madrid are the 4 hoping to get the bid. Me thinks Rio de Janeiro gets the bid as they will have the World Cup 2 years earlier in 2014 and South America has never held the Olympic Games.

Not quite sure how I feel about the prospect of having the games about 45 minutes from where I live (Chicago). But a lot can happen between in 7 years and may not even affect me.

Should be a close vote and who knows, maybe Tokyo or Madrid will pull the upset...

I think it will be Rio, but I would love to see it on US soil again. My brother lives in Chicago and so I would get to hear him female dog for the next 7 years.

In all honesty, I would like to go to an event, so I can say I've been.

Just my opinion but I went to quite a few Olympic events in 84. Basically it was the first games that went corporate. I thought they were very overrated. The crowd was not into hysteria like the networks made it out to be. Crowd noise was pumped in all the swimming+diving events. You could hear a pin drop until the last 5 seconds of a race. And to wade through all the people giving away free key chains, free coupons etc. reminded me of walking down the Vegas strip.Even though I'm from Chicago I wouldn't go out of my way to be gouged for a Olympic ticket.

It amazes me that the IOC doesn't make Los Angeles the permanent home of the Summer Olympic Games. 1984 was by far the most successful Olympics in history with over a $230,000,000 Profit. No Olympic city has come close to what L.A. did in 1984..

Speaking of Los Angeles profits, will Chicago hire Peter Uberroth?

Where is he these days?
