Now do your research , before I give the answer.

No walk in the park for this one.

The Answer is

The City of New York was going to ban baseball teams that didn't allow Black players to play. Rickey, just wanted to beat them to the punch.

Really? I lived through that period in NY as a Brooklyn Dodger fan, and I never heard that. So how did the Yankees not get banned as they didn't integrate until 1955? My understanding is that Rickey was a shrewd businessman who saw the economic potential in attracting more minorities to the ballpark, nothing more, nothing less.

You REALLY need a source for an assertion like this.

A manager, coach, etc knows when he sees a good player. In those days all they needed was a reason to believe they wouldn't be fired and then they went after some great atheletes.

Coach Darryl Royal of Texas did the same thing, jumping ahead of his SW Conference rivals and scooping-up some of the best black athletes around.

Guy Lewis (Houston Cougars) would drive through the 5th Ward in Houston, looking for players in the parks that were playing 'above the rim'.
America must have the highest "goofs per capita" rating of any nation outside Antarctica.
