I'm at least 25 miles from this fire, which is in La Canada, and not too far from SA.Today it looked like a volcanbo erupting, and tonight we're able to see the flames on the hillside.
I hope all in the immediate area are safe

I've been watching the Mt. Wilson web cam on & off for the past couple of days- recently it's been pointed westward so one can see the smoke from the fire. Smokes not as high as it was, but then you can't see into the area over the mountain.

From the air ( I landed at LAX Saturday at around noon), the plume looked more like a mushroom cloud from a nuclear blast, which I guess is good....no wind to fan the flames.

On the NOAA satellite pics, they are calling the plume a PryoCumulus cloud.

Anyone live near Santa Anita? How is the smoke there and is it affecting the horses, training schedule, or anything?
I bet on a horse at ten-to-one. It didn't come in until half-past five.

Looks like the fire is heading toward Acton (to the north), but is also predicted to surround Mt. Wilson, which would be at the southeast end -- in the direction of Sierra Madre and Arcadia.

This map can be enlarged and moved around.

I really hope the wind behaves and gives the fire fighters a chance to get it further under control.
