*Now* we're getting to the good stuff!
R4 Rampart: Looks to me like it'll be Pletcher vs Pletcher. Ciao Bella looks to be the better of the two, especially going a bit longer.
R8 Oaks: I'll look for a mild upset here and go with Cue the Moon. Looked awesome winning her maiden and probably would have won her next out in another 20 yards. Gotta love that she gets 6 lbs on the top two! If she's 5-1 or higher here, I'll be very very happy.
R9 Orchid: Starformer has been running great recently. No reason to think he doesn't repeat right back here. 2-1? Hopefully???
R10 Skip Away: Wow, I can make a case for a handful in this race. I'm leaning towards Cigar Street, but don't want him if he's too short of a price. I'm guessing that he'll go off as the favorite, so if he's 2-1 or so, I'll stick with him, otherwise I'll go with Take Charge Indy if he's 4-1 or more. If not, I'll kick back and watch this one from the sideline.
R11 Appleton: Another tough race! I like Za Approval. Had a tough time last out (not that Data Link would have been caught), but certainly could have finished much better without the trouble.
R12 Derby: I've been on the Itsmyluckyday fanboy bus for a while now. No reason to stop here! I hope he stays 2-1 or higher. I think Orb got a really fortunate pace scenario last out (although it could happen here too!) and Shanghai Bobby is always a threat, but he got stared down and blinked last out so here's hoping it happens again!
R7 Oaks: I like Flashy Gray, but I'm guessing that she'll be 4/5 or lower. So, I'll go for my super duper longshot of the day here and take Seaneen Girl. She looked fabulous gritting out a tough win at CD and could be a huge price here (12-1 M/L).
R8 New Orleans: I hope Graydar takes a ton of money. I'm guessing he loves GP and will find the track here a little more tiring. Of course, that leaves me with who do I go with? I like Bourbon Courage and I like Mark Valeski. I'll take the higher price one in Mark Valeski.
R9 Derby: Talk about being able to make the case for a lot of horses in a race. I could only throw out 3 of the 14 first time through! I'm not sold on Revolutionary, so I'm hoping he's going to go off at 2-1 and take a ton of money.
I could see Code West winning this one and you can't ignore Baffert, but I'll toss him because he just may be one of those money burners and he's going to be too short of a price anyway. In fact, I decided that I would throw out all the Risen Star horses just because that race seemed weak to me.
The three I can't split apart are Departing, Sunbean, and Ground Transport. I think Ground Transport may be compromised by his gate, so I'll drop him. And, between the two, I'm leaning towards Departing who just looks awesome in his wins...they all have been very very easy.
R10 Mervin Muniz: Take Amira's Prince over DMTC fan favorite ( ) Optimizer!
Good luck all!
What did I say last week about playing favorites? Hitting a lot of low priced winners is a great way to go broke...
R4 Rampart:Ciao Bella (+$2.80)
R8 Oaks: Cue the Moon - what are you going to do when Dreaming of Julia runs 2 seconds faster than the boys in the Derby?
R9 Orchid: Starformer - meh...didn't run a step. He seems to run best on the lead and I didn't understand why they didn't take him to the front eary.
R10 Skip Away: Cigar Street (+$5.60)
R11 Appleton: Za Approval (+$6.20)
R12 Derby: Itsmyluckyday - Orb just ran by him like he was nothing. Very impressive run from Orb...
R7 Oaks:Seaneen Girl - was a huge price, but didn't get it done...
R8 New Orleans: Mark Valeski - gave it a great shot, but just ran out of gas the last 100 yds.
R9 Derby: Departing - well, I need to give Revolutionary some respect now. He gritted that one out and looked pretty good doing it.
R10 Mervin Muniz: Amira's Prince (+$4.60) - *that* was a powerhouse move down the stretch. He has a great kick when he gets an easy lead!
win: 40% (ROI: $1.92)
win: 29.9% (ROI: $2.21)
Guess it’s common knowledge but I certainly didn’t know until Larry Jones pipes up in a post-paddock parade interview that Mark Valeski was wearing kiss of death glue-on shoes … congrats to Graydar, no congrats here…guess I should start reading the DRF articles the week before a race instead just looking at the pictures dooh…
On a brighter note, Seaneen Girl could still be a nice price in her next - goodbye Fairgrounds, KEE opening day Friday!
What's so bad about glue-ons? I heard about that before the race, but didn't think anything of it.
And, yeah, I'm keeping an eye out for where Seaneen Girl lands next out. I think she's a good one
