Chip says he was misquoted - MTB to Travers after all!

Postby Moonwalker » Fri Aug 21, 2009 4:10 pm

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Despite a published report that Mine That Bird is heading for the Pennsylvania Derby, trainer Chip Woolley Jr. denies the claim.

The Kentucky Derby winner will start in the Aug. 29 Travers Stakes.

The story reported that Woolley was 99% sure to start in the $1million race at Philadelphia Park on Sept. 7.

"I am 95% sure I'm not going to Philadelphia," Woolley said Wednesday afternoon. "I did call and nominate him, but what would you expect? I got to keep the doors open."

The story also said that Woolley talked with Sal Sinatra, Philadelphia Park's director of racing, for 15 minutes.

"I talked for all of 45 seconds and this guy puts out this big release saying I was 99% (sure) that is where I was going," he said. "It's not true. I didn't tell him anything of the sort."

Happy to hear the little guy is bright eyed and doing well (I mean Mine That Bird, not Chip, though Chip is still hot. )

he's gonna win. the only other donkey that might be competitive in the travers is quality road if he's running too. you can bet with vince p's most cherished possessions and with confidence that this little guy will take it down. you have that in legal writing.

As much as I enjoy your colorful, loud shirts, I have to disagree with you. MTB last race was average at best against a very suspect field. Chuck Woolery is running out of excuses. East Coast trainers and jockeys are very cagey when it comes to Saratoga. he'll have to take it up a few notches to win. This isnt the toothless hillbilly derby @ MTR. I see him a late running 3rd at best passing tiring horses backing up. As far as QR goes unless he slows down on the front end maybe 1:10 and change he'll be toast by the 16th pole. Lets see if Woolery uses the minor surgery as another excuse. As of today I dont know who I'm betting to win.

nah, i'm presuming the travers was their ultimate goal for the summer or at least it would have been if i was chuck woolery. i'm thinking homeboy will tighten the screws a little bit harder for this race and this donkey will get home in front in 2 and 2.
