The Best Racing Host - Once and For All

Postby Pegasus44 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 6:12 pm

He's right under our noses...

John Lies, on the in-house DMR feed. Listen to him (if you can) doing the paddock report on every entrant.

Dude is prepared, presents the info well, can be critical without being condescending, and has a voice that sounds professional. His brief description of each runner is concise, yet informative. Very polished individual.

I predict he'll be Trevor's heir apparent, if he already isn't. Basically he's a younger Yankee version of Trevor anyway, if you've ever heard him call the races at Lone Star.

John Lies is great. But I wish they could get Kurt Hoover to host though. Because Kurt is more better and experinced than Jon.

Lies sounds like a robot I think he is a terrible race caller.. he has not voice for it. I think he is much better suited 4 this analyst role... he does as good a job as any ...just please keep him out tof the Booth.. I suspect if anything ever happened to Trevor they would be all over Michael Wrona to take over.

I'll agree somewhat on the "robotic" style, but my guess is that as time goes by he'll loosen up a bit (as Trevor did) and sound a bit more relaxed.

Think Trevor has been very solid this meet, think he is getting used to the Poly where big winning moves often stall out. But agree that if Trevor says he has had enough that Wrona gets it if he sticks it out in CA long enough.

John wrote a very nice comprehensive article about Del Mar in this month's HorsePlayer Magazine.

A good read from a great magazine.

In have never been able to stomach Lies. He has that monotone voice that drives me crazy and is really quite dull in his commentary. I like Willman much better.
