Hard to believe that a pair of favorites and a pair of "logical" lomgshots returned really big money, especially with the (mis) information regarding both bombers!
Leg one was a sprint, one other than and the clear speed seemed to belong to Lt. Hopeful ($40.40). In addition to the b l i n kers being added this one had hooked the very freaky Zensational through ridiculous splits (:21 and change, :43 and a few ticks) May 29, before tiring and getting out a bit. Armstrong was tempted to try the turf going long three weeks ago entered, but waited for this spot and was rewarded with a wire to wire score. The big price was aided by the comebacking Coronet of a Baron a stake horse returning in an allowance race; perhaps the worst bet in racing. We wonder what the odds would have been IF, Delmar did NOT report that "Lt. Hopeful was a first time gelding, or better yet "How many people played him BECAUSE of the ultimate equipment change ?? As a matter of record Lt Hopeful was gelded before his first start. Our other charge Bet On Victor ran huge to be bumped out of the place in a picture.

Went three deep and finished 2,3 and 4 after excluding the favorite who had been off ten weeks. Not our finest moment as Magical Mystery runs them all down at $6.40.

Most of YODELING DAN'S ($6.20) races are faster than these could run as he ran his record on to five for ten on synthetics. The reason he wasn't something to five was the less than interested ride in his last, in a race he needed and the bad post. Mullins charge is STILL a homebred and well worth the money. We also played Camisado after being reclaimed and having issues in his last two and the rider movement. Becerra takes Bob Benoit for some reason.

Another small matter with the info, or lack thereof, with winner MALIBU MOON ($69.60). Capeastro entered a pair on the day and put the bug on both. Her first entrant (race seven) showed little at eighty to one so this one had to be looked at, although for us the sequence was already played. The Malibu Moon filly had worked in the black, in Arcadia, in April, before being benched and sent to the training center, then worked very well here. For us, bugs are best bet when b l i n kers are on and this filly showed up at the gate with them on. Neither the overnight, nor the program indicated such equipment. We run second and third, but would have had trouble including this bomb who drifts but holds by a diminishing head. A monster return with sixteen winning $1 tickets. BBB
