To me:

The best bet of a Rachel-Zenyatta showdown happening is if Philly Park dips into its slot money and gurantees $1.5 million if both start with the purse jacked to $3 million in a race where other former TC or BC winners start (hence, if it were up to me and if I were running Philly Park, I'd be in negotiations with Magna to run the Pimlico Special here the weekend of October 10-11).

I've been doing a video poll on my blog asking people if they'd like to see a match race.
Trainer Mel Stute and jockey agent Alex Purcell weighed in via my video poll.

Honestly, they should meet in the Ladies Classic Breeder's Cup race.....then the true champion would be decided !!!!!

Come on Rachel...you can make the trip to Santa Anita and run on BC Day..... 8-)

Disagree. The BC should not decide HOY. Should the Ky Derby decide best 3 yr old colt ? Really ...........

When it was first announced way back when that the Breeders' Cup would be held at Santa Anita two years in a row, I was very put off. And this situation now is another reason why I don't think it's a good idea to have the event at the same venue in consecutive years (at Churchill Downs in 2010-11). Chances are pretty good, that if the BC rotated each year, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Sounds funny, but does a couple million dollars really mean anything at all to either connection?
Isn't it all about prestige at this point, and should PhillyPark and the word prestige ever be used in the same sentence?
And remember...Things work out best when you make the best of the way things work out.

Great points. It's not about money for either as I'd be willing to bet both are more than set in the personal finances department -- well unless they were a party to the Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme -- otherwise it's more about what's best for their individual runner. And has anyone ever considered that the Mosses (and trainer Shirreffs) maybe aren't as worried about HOY (but more about keeping her forever unbeaten) as billionaire Jess Jackson -- just a thought.

I would love to see them in a race together (as in with other horses... not so keen about a match race) but have resigned myself to just enjoy two such brilliantly consistent horses racing at the same time. That's a small miracle in itself.

After she destroys the finest older males in the country in the Woodward, why would she want to take a step backwards and run in the Ladies Classic?
