Zenyatta vs. Rachel? No thanks

Postby Risen Star » Mon Aug 10, 2009 7:21 pm

This is a beautiful commentary/blog by Steve Haskin, on the bloodhorse site (link below), which got me to thinking how I honestly feel about a meeting between these two remarkable ladies.

I hope Zenyatta and Rachel are never in the same race, because they both can't win and that would sadden me. They've both done so much for racing, they're both great, and I'd like to see them enjoy continued success. And I love them both, especially Zenyatta.

I agree, no need for match races or any race against each other because we know what can happen.

Disagree totally:

The sport needs Rachel and Zenyatta to meet to spark more interest among casual fans, preferably against the boys for both. That's why if I were running Philadelphia Park, I would be in negotiations with Magna to have the Pimlico Special (Grade 1) transferred to Philly Park and run it there as a weight-for-age invitational at the race's traditional 1 3/16 Mile distance on October 10 or 11. That showdown would be huge.

I think the most likely outcome will be after the Breeders Cup, more than likely at Churchill (just a guess). If Zenyatta loses then it will not happen. It seems as if it will only happen if HOY is on the line and Zenyatta must continue to win to have that scenario play out. If Zenyatta wins out and Rachael loses in a race in which they are not head to head, that would change the landscape a bit, either way if they stay undefeated, that would further race being setup against each other. But who else is going to enter that race if it isn't a BC race? The exacta would probably have a minus pool. Seems as so Jackson is really thumbing his nose at the BC. Ohhhh, if only Curlin had won last year.

I agree 100%

I love both of them, especially Zenyatta(from her first race) and I don't want to see either one of them lose.
I just want both of them to stay sound and keep on winning their races. No match race. But I have to say, if they both end up in the same race I will be rooting for Zenyatta!!!
