Gryder and Solis spill in DMR 10th (Aug 9th)

Postby ScrapingThePaint » Sun Aug 09, 2009 6:46 pm

Any news on the status/condition of Aaron Gryder and Alex Solis after their spill in the 10th race at Del Mar on August 9th?

How about the horses: Captain Cash and Endless Moon (who broke down).
I bet on a horse at ten-to-one. It didn't come in until half-past five.
My horse was so late getting home, he tiptoed into the stable.

So sorry for the connections of Endless Moon. :(

Hope the jocks are OK.

Killed in the spill or euthanized due to injuries sustained in the spill?

Sadly, he had to be euthanized.

http://www3.signonsandiego.com/weblogs/del-mar-post/2009/aug/09/spill-mars-last-race/?'at%20the%20post'

...a 10th-race spill which resulted in the 3-year-old gelding Endless Moon, trained by Lisa Lewis, being euthanized on the track.

Endless Moon, with Alex Solis up, suffered fractures of the left front and right hind legs, track veterinarians reported, on the backstretch less than a quarter-mile into the 7-furlong race. Captain Cash, ridden by Aaron Gryder, was unable to avoid the fallen Endless Moon and also went down.

Gryder and Solis were both taken to the track first aid and reported in good condition. Captain Cash was taken back to the stable area of trainer Eoin Harty with a possible right foreleg injury.

I hate to say this... but, this horse may not have been right. Did it strike anyone else as suspicious that this horse was purchased for $95,000...debuts in a MSW on the turf...which, wasn't a horrible debut..."veered out" at the start, etc. - but, then gets brought back for $25,000 Maiden Claiming?

Like I said, I hate to ask the question...but, I also hate to see the surface questioned as it has been on various posts and forums.

Any thoughts?

Whenever a horse makes a huge drop in class, I always ask myself the question. And whenever a horse goes down in a race, regardless of how much I know that any horse can take a bad step, I always ask myself the question.

The problem is -- whenever I ask myself the question, I never have an answer.

You probably have the answer, it's just too hard to swallow.
The connections were ready to sell the horse at a big loss, because the horse had a problem.
Yep, it's possible the owner just happened to go bankrupt during those few weeks.

My seemingly unanswerable question is, why do established jockeys take such mounts?
He may owe the trainer a favor, but not one that big.
America must have the highest "goofs per capita" rating of any nation outside Antarctica.

I think Alex Solis and Del Mar don't get along very well. Besides this is filled with bad memories for Alex Solis because he had that horrible spill couple years ago.

Very good question. So sick to send them out and knowing they are not in good shape. Why don't they just let them go to a retirement home instead of this..... :x
