thats pretty thin, probably not sourceable enough to post on a board many owners frequent.

Then they simply don't know.

They didn't get the pokies, they have trouble filling full race cards, and
they are only making a very slim profit.
No point asking Jack Liebau or Martin Panza, you need to know the owners.
Inglewood City Council have approved the zoning and development of Hollywood
Park as a residential development.
The actual owner is Bay Meadows Land Company, and they have recently
acquired their $2 billion to go ahead with the project.

That was the only thing they were waiting for.

Racing will end this year.

One would think that information would be made public. Is your source's sister's husband in a position at Hollywood Park to be in on that sort of news?
I bet on a horse at ten-to-one. It didn't come in until half-past five.

I got back to the person and asked him and this is what he told me...

"My sister's husband works there.
I don't think they've made it public yet."[/quote]

Is this source unwilling to allow his name to be posted in public? Seems a bit sheepish that he'd be tossing around the future plans so freely - but, unwilling to allow his name to be attached to it?

Media rules on this stuff...unless there is a verified source, let's keep it under our hats and not cry FIRE in the movie theatre...

This type of information is too serious to throw it without sources that can validate.

The final zoning approval to redevelop the park isn't exactly hush-hush. It's public knowledge. Not sure why Bay Meadows Land Company would sit on the property another year before getting started, but stranger things have happened. It's only a matter of time and I wouldn't be surprised if we've already seen the last race run at Hollywood Park:

"Several recent developments have affected the value of some of the tracks that are being offered for sale. In California, the owner of Hollywood Park received final zoning approval to redevelop the racetrack property, though there is no clear timetable for when the track will close. When it does, though, Santa Anita can be expected to take over more racing dates on the Southern California circuit."

My apologies, I completely forgot about the fall meet in Nov-Dec, so perhaps we haven't seen the last race run at Hollywood Park. :)

Officials have also stated that they will give six month notice prior to closure so owners can make arrangements for the horses still stabled there. So, we're looking at early 2010 at the earliest.

I know all the zoning / entitlements / approvals came through, but I thought that funding was still a question. Bay Meadows, from what I can understand, is still waiting for financing for the project to continue. In this economy, it doesn't seem logical that $2 billion funding has come through for the Hollywood Park project.

Best thing for racing in CA would be for HP to close and move forward. If the industry in CA goes on a constant meet to meet basis for HP it hurts the entire racing program in CA. I like HP but its over, Some trainers saying they are hearing will be 3 years or nonsense to that affect, BS it is over a lot faster than that. If I had to bet from what I have heard from someone in the City it is over after Spring Summer 2010. Its time to move on and figure out what the hell we are going to do with the days. If by some outside shot the SA sale does not go smoothly I cant even think how fast racing will fall apart in this state.
