Track Maintenance Man

Postby Lurker » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:52 am

How does their job work, is it like the Supreme Court where they're there as long as they want to be, or do they report to somebody, receive annual reviews and are subject to termination if certain things happen?

thanks,

As well, didn't Del Mar say they would be watering the racing surface less this year? In watching the races in 2009 this current surface reminds me more of the debacle that was the 2007 Polytrack -- with runners seeming to struggle over the surface. 2008 seemed much fairer and runners didn't seem to struggle nearly as much -- and if so, why make a change? Seems to me the surface might need more watering ... thoughts anyone?

EDIT: There was a post right before mine that caused me to respond ... it's now gone. I also made a post similar to this earlier in the week that seemingly disappeared over night. Is someone randomly deleting posts? Did the author delete his post? I know I didn't delete mine. If deleted by the moderators it would be nice to know the whys? Or is it simply buggy blog software?

The last deleted post easily fit under this rule.

Aggressive or slanderous messages, as well as personal insults and critiques, obscene language, vulgarities, and more generally any message contravening laws are prohibited.

Thanks for the clarification Beckron. Unfortunately the post is now deleted so I don't recall all it's specifics, but I know it was critical of track maintenance which caused my reply. I suppose it was the tenor of the post that got it deleted as I would hope criticism if honest and void of obscene language, vulgarities, etc. would be allowed.

Truth hurts. I never used bad language.
If I can't use a public forum to give my opinion then why is this site up. I have been an owner for 20 years and my family has put millions into this sport.
If I cant speak the truth then what a shame. If you disagree then go ahead and do so. This is why you have an open forum.

This is not a "public" forum. There are rules and one of them is to not make slanderous statements when you single out an individual and accuse them you do just that. We all have to live by the rules to keep the forum.

This forum is provided by Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and subject to its rules. One of those is no personal attacks.

As most know, the forum was shut down for several months because of abuses and brought back with much more stringent rules after many hours of discussion, pro and con. If you want to launch personal attacks, there are other places out there where you may do so.

It's no wonder that most (if not all) other tracks have gotten rid of their public forums/boards completely. Del Mar would like to remain the exception, but only if we can enforce the rules that have been established.

Beckron-

Understand..No one is allowed to speak their mind on how they feel. I guess it is ok for horses to keep breaking down. Not to mention how many horses have soft tissue injuries due to the track and the surface always changing. do you have any idea on the amount of horses with soft tissue injuries that are laid up in farms..We just focus on the torrible breakdowns but there are hundreds that have issues because everytime the track changes the surface, it is like running over a different track. Therefore injuries occurs that are not in the media. If you are in the business you will understand.
