Belated Happy Birthday to Kjell Qvale

Postby Tairaterces » Thu Jul 30, 2009 6:27 pm

Turned 90 years young on July 18th. His Tribesman won on his birthday and Afternoon Express won today in the last at Santa Rosa.

A nice article from the SF Chronicle:

Thanks for the great link T. I grew up admiring his stable(I loved the orange silks-hey, as a kid that's how I picked my bets--much better handicapping system than I have now). But man, did this guy accomplish more than I could have ever imagined. And I loved the part of him helping Robyn Smith. Somehow I completely forgot she had married Fred Astaire even with quite a few years(decades?) between them.

-- Has owned several horse ranches. His best horse was Silveyville, winner of 19 races and $1.3 million.
