Trevor's call in the finale...

Postby Masterp » Thu Jul 30, 2009 4:47 pm

I am not a huge Trevor fan, there are other race callers that I prefer to him, but I admire his professionalism and day to day effort. However, he used the "sprout wings" line in today's finale and it just comes off so corny to me. Just my opinion, not the end of the world, just thought I would share.

Know what you mean. It was forced like it was something thrown in as an after thgought for the tourist crowd. But I expected a " just looked like he jumped in at the 8th pole " instead.

Guys like Harry Carry and Chick Hearn made a living off of using corny lines. Those guys are in the Hall of Fame in their sports. It's entertainment not a microbiology lecture.

It's a tough job sometimes to get up for a cheap maiden claimer at the end of a card on a slow weekday. I hear what all of you are saying about the "corniness," but it seems like that's his line no matter what when a horse is drawing away to win by 10 lengths.

Compared to what?

You really appreciate Trevor when you are on the east and listen to Tom Durkin who I find very bland. By the time, Tom gets around to naming the horses after the start; they are at the eighth pole; his rocking horse style puts me to sleep. Too bad there is no mute button on track so one could "give him the slip."

Bottom line, consider yourself lucky to have Trevor.

No offense to y'all but ya need to feel lucky you have someone that calls the horses that are actually in the race. Try and dial up a call from Fonner Park's Steve Andersen. If you can figure out who is running you are lucky, let alone figure out who is winning and who is out of the race. You have professional announcers even if Durkin is a little bland and Trevor is a little "flashy". Vic is still the greatest IMHO. Terry Wallace (Oaklawn) is a good second.
