Anyone know if Brad Free has a day job?

This guy is straight up awwful and his best bets seem to be guaranteed bet against favorites. How much does this guy get paid and how does he still have this job after being sooooooooooo horrible at it. I dont claim to be a pro just like the ponies as a hobby, but i just cant understand how in this economy anyone can be paying this guy. Is the guy related to someone or what ? someone please explain. Hope this does not get me kicked off forum that would not be cool.

The key word here is free. His picks our free. When I was young my Dad told me if anyone told me I could have something
for free to run home as fast as I could. Fifty years later not much has changed.

My last post, in the picks category made mention of Mr. Free's handicapping.

For many years DRF 'cappers have had other jobs, be it trainer, or other barn employee, jocks agent, customer service etc. and they are "paid" to write up their opinions. Logically, some of their selections are better than others due to time spent and other life issues.

Personally, I decide to play a certain day, post THAT pick four and add at least a modicum of analysis. DRF "touts" have far less enthusiasm, face deadlines and sadly, "have to have" an opinion every race.

As a bottom line, few will outperform the DRF track 'capper, and even less the secretary, but if you look at their reasoning, rather than their selections ; eventually, you will improve your own 'capping.

Agree with a previous post. Read his book. It's cheap, readable and feel "FREE" to offer any inaccuracies. bbb

Blazinkrush that's a low to attack a guy and wonder or even question how he got a job. Brad Free got to where he is by working hard and doing yeomans work in the handicapping field. He is an accomplished author who has devoted his time and hard work to this game of ours.

Brad and I agree to disagree on many occassions but I respect him for the hard work he puts in. He is a devoted family man and works hard to feed his family. Yet, you on the other hand judge someone worth by a stupid wager or a pick. There is many nuggetts that Brad brings out day in and day out and a weekly basis in America's Racing Authority. If you read his columns and handicapping analysis you would know that, but you judge him by picks, like many handicappers and monday morning handicapping quarterback.

Brad is a good handicapper who is forced to make his picks under the duress of a deadline without knowing scratches, track conditions, etc. YOU COULDN'T DO WHAT BRAD FREE DOES and to single him out is bull doogie.....

Blazin do you have a job that demands results or do you just push the copy button 100 a times and get paid? If you are any kind of man, you will apologize on this forum to Brad and his family for questioning his means of making a living in this economy of today. Shame on you. All you had to say is you agree to disagree with Brad's picks.

I couldn't agree more with the President of the Brad Free Fan Club. Mr. Free doesn't have the option of skipping the tough races and spending half a day handicapping the race or two where there is reasonable potential to find a winner. His columns are available two and three days in advance and he is keeping track of something like 1,200 horses in the stables. His picks and percentages are there for all of us to see and measure day after day. Can his essentially anonymous critics say that?

Yeah, Brad Free has a day job and he is good at it. And I'll join his fan club anytime.

As Bruno noted it's an incredibly difficult task to handicap horse races many days ahead while not knowing things such scratches, track conditions, pre-race antics, etc. I did it religiously for more than two years for my web site (equiedge.com) and to say there was pressure is an understatement as it's all about what have you done for me lately. Over the course of those two years (I am not just doing it on weekends for Del Mar my home race track) I was very proud of what I accomplished handicapping full time in Southern California and if afforded the opportunity to do it full time (Brad are you retiring soon?) I would jump at the chance -- merely because I love the challenge. While I don't always agree with Brad's selections I appreciate the very hard work that goes into putting together those selections day in and day out.
